The MOTHERS OF INVENTION
"FREAK OUT!"
labled VERVE RECORDS 2352 023/024 recordings from 1966,
this is POLYDOR Records issue 2683 004 from 1971
'Pioneering' in music is occasionally credited to Jazz musicians, or classical composers - but in our times I believe the terminology in certainly worthy of artists such as FRANK ZAPPA. Here evidenced by his first recording excursions onto LP, he expresses a sideways look at pop, doo-wop and rock 'n roll - while stretching the staid morals of the 1960's in America. The true shock in the public face should have been the wastes of lives in Vietnam, but the Mothers of Morality then were watchdogs over errant musicians and writers - still busying themselves to make sure nothing shocking got into the ears of their teenagers!
Frank Zappa and The Mothers Of Invention made some nods to such as The Turtles, who ironically were later to merge in the shapes of bandmembers Mark Volman and Howard Kaylan. Zappa had a penchant for blotting in the public eye in strange ways though (see youtube tv appearance 'playing a bicycle'!)
This cool double LP set reveals this band's outset, carving a strange new niche out on the way to a long & storied road to come.
FREAK OUT with The Mothers on 4 sides, of musical mayhem and musings!
