The information and details I provide will give you a strong perspective why I arrived at my Buy It Now price.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Elliot Mintz (age 78) is a well-known and longtime American radio personality, media consultant and publicist; and was 26 years old when he met and befriended John Lennon and Yoko Ono in 1971. Eight years after John's murder in 1980, Mr. Mintz (then age 42) began hosting most of The Lost Lennon Tapes during its radio broadcast run. [When that run ended in March 1992, what followed was a different radio broadcast run called The Beatle Years, which was distributed on CD].

The Lost Lennon Tapes was a syndicated, weekly one-hour radio show broadcast on the Westwood One Radio Networks from January 18, 1988 – March 23, 1992; distributed to major U.S. radio stations/media markets each week on two vinyl LPs (only the three-hour premiere show was on five vinyl LPs).

The entire series had 219 episodes: the three-hour premiere episode followed by 218 regular one-hour episodes, for a total of 221 hours of programming.

During the first two years, The Lost Lennon Tapes gave the radio audience: anecdotes / commentary / interviews / sponsor’s commercials / etc. AND the best of Lennon’s unreleased material (composing tapes, home recordings and conversations, demos, alternate tracks/mixes, rehearsals and interviews).

The remaining two years contained minimal unreleased material and much commercially available recordings, etc. of Lennon and/or the other three Beatles, other musicians, plus repeat airings of previous shows.

The four-year The Lost Lennon Tapes were bootlegged onto a 35-volume set of vinyl LPs (19??) and also onto a 22-CD bootleg box set (1996). Since then, other bootleg companies have offered this material.

However, I repeat however, all these bootleg recordings omit everything but the music: no insightful commentary, no compelling interviews, no “fly-on-the-wall” conversations, and no original commercials.

Also, the bootleg sound quality is fair/good, not the first-rate source material music of Westwood One Radio Networks vinyl LPs.

Westwood One Radio Networks’ The Lost Lennon Tapes (vinyl LPs) are not a rare item, but are uncommon to find - because only major radio stations received them, were broadcast once, stored away, and usually discarded when the series ended in 1992. Equally uncommon to find are the original issue covers.

These radio shows (vinyl LPs) are sometimes found for sale individually: Year Three (1990) and Year Four (1991/1992); but scarcely found for sale individually (or as a complete year): Year One (1988) and Year Two (1989).

[FYI: The 1988 Year One 5 LP debut Premier episodes were not issued with covers. Each additional (2 LP) Broadcast week, 1988-1992, did include a cover with a reproduction of John Lennon's artwork on the front; each cover is identical: John composing at Yoko Ono’s white baby grand piano in their living room at the Dakota.]

[FYI: With each double LP episode, there was included a two-page Certificate of Performance (CP) and a single-page cue-sheet; the cue-sheet (only printed on the front side) for DJ personal documentation and notes.
After each broadcast the two-page CP were signed by the Disc Jockey and submitted by the radio station to Westwood One Radio Networks.]

MY AUCTION DETAILS / SHIPPING

My auction is for an incomplete Year One (1988) of the original The Lost Lennon Tapes, produced and distributed by Westwood One Radio Networks.

My auction does 19 Broadcast weeks (2-LPs each week, 38 LPs total; and 19 covers total).

VINYL GRADE: (M-) every LP has no signs of use - with high gloss, no chips, no dust, no fingerprints, no scuffs, no scratches, and no warping.

LABEL GRADE: (M-) every label has no signs of use – no fading, no scuffs, no scratches, and no spindle marks.

LPs and LABELS appears to have never have been played – but probably each were played once by the radio station DJ; and maybe only once by the dealer (from which I purchased in 1994). I never played them; purchased only for eventual trade or (sale, all these many years later).

NOTE: 38 LPs are each sealed in Mylar, using acid-free ¼” tape, and those 71 LPs are each inside unsealed Japanese rice paper sleeves.

FYI: All the Mylar sleeves and Japanese rice paper sleeves have a mild musty odor [not strong, not faint] on their outside. That odor could be from the covers (read below) or from the many, many years that I had them stored in regular, non-acid storage boxes.

I do not smell any odor on the individual vinyl LPs.

COVER GRADE: (VG to VG++) every cover - front and back - has no dirt, no fading, no holes, no scratches, no stickers, no writing; every cover has at least one minor tap at two or three corners; the majority of covers have a minor or somewhat small crease or bend to one or two corners. No covers have original shrink wrap.

NOTE: 19 covers are each in Mylar sleeves (unsealed/not resealable)

FYI: All 19covers have a mild musty odor [not strong, not faint] inside (not outside) the covers. Most covers are individually protected in Mylar acid-free sleeves.

I recommend do not bid on this auction if you need odor-free and/or M- covers. I don’t know if any such covers exist. I don’t know if the condition of my covers are critical for your listening pleasure of the LPs contents.

 A few covers are exceptionally displayable as an exciting expression of John Lennon’s artwork.
