Description

From Blue Note’s first recording session on January 6, 1939, these two 78’s have the rare original pink 7th Avenue labels from the first issues of 12” Blue Note 1 and 2.  #1 is by Meade Lux Lewis doing “Melancholy” and “Solitude”.  Its playing surface is extraordinary, maybe played once; however many of these early pressings have small blisters, most of which are shallow and will be inaudible; possibly E++.  #2 is by Albert Ammons doing “Boogie Woogie Blues” and “Boogie Woogie Stomp”.  Its playing surface has an amazing high luster with just a few probably superficial, inaudible  marks. The story goes that the label printer made a mistake, using pink ink instead of the blue ink requested by Alfred Lyons.  The labels were quickly reprinted to the blue and yellow ubiquitous colors, but not before a few got into circulation.  Sold as a pair: $1800.00
