Stretcher Case Baby/Sick of Being Sick
Stiff Records
THE DAMNED Stretcher Case Baby (Rare original 1977 UK promotional-only Stiff label 7" vinyl single including Sick Of Being Sick - given away at a series of London gigs to celebrate the bands first anniversary, this is a legendary item from the beginning of the punk era, superb 'skull/mirror' picture sleeve and 'skull' labels.
This legendary item was given away to punters [I was one of them] who attended a series of shows at the original Marquee Club in Soho, London in July 1977 to celebrate the bands first anniversary.
Superb picture sleeve which appears to be a skull at first glance but when looked at more closely is an image of a lady looking in the mirror and her reflection. On the reverse is 2 black & white photo's of the band in full manic live on stage action with the 'Stiff Records' logo and the wording 'ISSUED FREE AS FIRST ANNIVERSARY GIFT' underneath.
The labels have 2 more 'white-on-black' skull images - one with the band members heads on and the other with tracklisting details followed by the wording:
"EASILY DESTRUCTIBLE STEREO
NOT FOR SALE
Special snob collectors artifact of no historical/cultural value. Play it today. Throw it away. Why sell 'em when you can give 'em away."
In the run-out grooves there is the following etching/matrix numbers:
"DAMMED-1-1 I SAID YOU BETTER HAVE THE ALBUM I SAID YOU BETTER HAVE THE ALBUM
DAMMED-2-1 ONE YEAR OLDS"
The vinyl can be described as very good to near mint [I just noticed a small mark on the B-Side grooves - does not effect play] and the cover very good [the odd crease but no seam split!!] - a great clean copy of this very collectible punk artefact.
I will post by special delivery, signature and safely packaged to the UK - or you can collect in person from Ealing, West London.
Will also post worldwide.
