So, what’s the difference between the old Beatles records and CD’s and Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab’s “Beatle Box”? They both are records, play on a turntable and have album covers... so, what's the difference?

This boxed set, the first recognized “boxed set” for the Fab Four, represented a whole new level of vinyl perfection. Limited pressings (only 10,000), superior vinyl formulations, infinitely better mastering, even static-free inner sleeves; this technology brought to market the best possible sound of the best rock group of all time.

You are looking at box set number 9445, purchased new by me and played only once to record reel-to-reel. Astonishing was a word that leapt out as I heard it on my above-average sound system as definition, bass and over-all clarity was instantly evident. The vocals, muddy by comparison on their “regular” records, sprung out of the speakers and, for the first time, seemed three-dimensional!

The mastery of George Martin in the studio and his pedantic insistence on technical perfection was also blatantly obvious and forever ensured his place as indispensible to the Beatles’ career (some might even say, responsible for it).

Even on playback on the reel-to-reel deck, it was still astonishing!

When the CD’s finally came out, I couldn’t wait to hear it on my now-vastly-better sound system and was both disappointed and delighted: the new CD’s still didn’t sound as good as the reel-to-reels made of the MFSL box set.

Astonishing!

Even with the new “remastered” Beatles CD’s, in and of themselves spectacular and worthy, vinyl done right SOUNDS BETTER!

It’s all here... all of their EMI albums along with a real-sized book of all the album covers. Indicative of MFSL’s attention to detail and insistence of perfection, there’s also an included “Geodisc” dampening mat to further isolate the playback experience.

So, what’s the difference?

Priceless.
