Very rare and I'm letting this go with a heavy heart ..... Beatles 'Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band', Fourth Proof . PMC 7027 XEX-637-1, XEX 638-1. 1967 Mono First Press with cut-out and psyche/"fools" inner sleeve
The "Fourth Proof" sleeve is a very rare unique sleeve! The Fourth Proof was the final version of the various outer cover prototypes that were explored when the cover was being designed. The cover (and text) was approved by the Beatles and an initial very small test run was undertaken to make sure everything looked okay, this small test run is identified by the inverted "Fourth Proof" text in the top right hand corner of the inner gatefold just above George Harrisons head. The same upper fold-back also has the printed text "AR D 1321", which was probably the reference number for the prototype text that was used - Only a very small number got into circulation. Both the cut-out and the red/white psyche/fools inner sleeve are included.
This has been visually reviewed and play-tested with the following comments;
Vinyl; There are hairlines and few more visible marks to both sides. Overall the vinyl plays with light crackle here and there and the occasional light click but not bad at all with the most noticeable audible observation being six clicks (which are not really horrible) about midway through track one. There are no sticks or skips/jumps to either side 1. Black label with yellow logo and silver print. “The Gramophone Co. Ltd.” printed at the start perimeter print and “Sold in U.K. subject…” text, with KT tax code on the label.
Sleeves; The front of outer sleeve is glossy and clean with only very light creasing, The rear of the outer sleeve is also clean and glossy with very minimal wear. The inside of the outer sleeve is very nice, clean and glossy with the Fourth Proof identifiers clearly visible. The spine has some wear but not worn through, badly damaged or suffering from substantial damage - Overall the outer is clean, glossy and nice. The inner "Psyche/Fools" sleeve has couple of bits of tape at the top opening and tape down one side, seam split of about 7cms at bottom. The cut-out is Excellent.
