Original 1st US Mono DECCA contract pressing of The Beatles “Rubber Soul” album released by Capitol Records on December 6, 1965. This copy was pressed at the DECCA Records plant in Pinckneyville, IL, and it comes across significantly rarer than its Gloversville, NY counterpart. Here're some of the details of this contract pressing that make it highly collectable. First of all, it's the 1st print cover which still remains in the original factory shrink wrap. This cover was printed specifically for the DECCA contract pressing and contains the RIAA “8” identifier which was exclusively assigned to the DECCA pressings. This cover is the exception as the majority of DECCA contract pressings don't have any identifier on the back cover at all. The labels of this pressing were printed by the Keystone printing company for Capitol Records. The labels show the 1” pressing ring which is characteristic of the DECCA pressings. Finally, the matrix numbers contain the DECCA Records, Pinckneyville, IL pressing plant’s identifier in the form of a “P” letter. One more important detail showing that this is a very early 1st pressing of December, 1965 is the fact that the labels don’t have the band name at the top, which appeared on the copies that were pressed already in the early 1966. The full matrix numbers including the identifiers are as follows: Side 1 - T1-2442-T10P; Side 2 - T2-2442-P15P. The album comes with the original "Capitol's New Improved Full Dimensional Stereo Sounds Better Than Stereo Has Ever Sounded Before" olive inner sleeve. Great copy in general and a very rare example of the DECCA contract pressing.

The cover is graded as Near Mint. It only has some very light age discoloration along the mouth on the back but aside from that it's in wonderful condition. The shrink wrap remains fully intact with just some very light age shelf wear. I grade the vinyl as Excellent for Side 1 and Strong Very Good Plus for Side 2. The vinyl retains its beautiful factory gloss only having a few very light hairlines as well as scuffs from the original inner sleeve which is in Near Mint condition and doesn't have any splits or tears. The labels are very clean and in Near Mint (Practically Mint Minus) condition and don't have any spindle marks, wear or scuffs. The record's audio is graded as Excellent. The vinyl sounds amazing only having some very light occasional static that's heard only at a loud volume during the quiet passages and which most likely would go away if the record was professionally cleaned using a VPI cleaning machine.
