The Beatles - Revolver

I am pleased to offer for sale this superb UK mono 1st pressing of The Beatles seventh studio album, Revolver.

The UK mono 1st pressing of Revolver, identifiable by the matrix number: XEX 606 - 1, is particularly sought after for the alternative mix, the so-called 'remix 11', of "Tomorrow Never Knows". According to anecdotal evidence, the wrong tape was sent to EMI for mastering. A member of the production team discovered this and contacted the EMI pressing plant to rectify the situation. Although reluctant, they agreed to stop production and remaster the correct mix with the understanding that those records already produced would be sold. Consequently, a small number of this alternative mix were available for purchase.

As with the majority of records of this era, the teenage audience that bought Beatles LPs were not as careful as they might have been when handling LPs. They were taken to parties, kept outside of inner sleeves, left on counter tops, and, the worst culprit of all, played with a poor quality stylus. As a consequence, although there were literally thousands of copies sold, finding clean and original copies of the Beatles early catalogue in mono is extremely difficult.

This particular copy is a fantastic example all round. Visually the labels and vinyl surface are excellent, the audio is superb and other than a few tiny imperfections the sleeve looks as-new. As such, it represents a great opportunity to add that 'final upgrade' copy to your collection!

The -2 / -1 matrix numbers confirm that the record is a true UK first pressing.

The black labels with yellow Parlophone logo and silver text are the first variant as is evident from the misspelling of T4 S2, "Doctor Robert" as "Dr. Robert".

The front side laminated Garrod & Lofthouse sleeve is the first variant as is evident from the small solid 'MONO' aural indicator text printed to the front side, a square spine and flip-backs to the reverse. The first variant sleeves also display the same error as the labels concerning the title of "Doctor Robert".

The album is complete with the original polythene lined die-cut Emitex 'protect your records' inner sleeve.

Disc: EXCELLENT -

Labels: EXCELLENT -

The labels are clean and retain rich, vibrant colours. A handful of dull spindle trails are visible around the otherwise unworn centre hole.

Visual: EXCELLENT

The vinyl retains superb deep gloss playing surfaces. In bright daylight a number of light surface marks can be seen. None can be felt and I would not describe any as a 'scratch'. Underneath the glare of a halogen desk lamp a handful of barely visible wispy paper hairlines (usually present due to the record going in and out of the inner sleeve) can be seen alongside an iridescent rainbow shine. Splendid!

Sound Quality: VERY GOOD +

As can be heard in the recordings, the record sounds great. As with all of the early heavy-weight mono pressings, the bass is punchy, the mids well-defined. The lead ins are quiet. Some background static can be heard in passages but it doesn't distract from the otherwise superb audio. Take a listen to the audio files and decide for yourself.

Sleeve: EXCELLENT +

The sleeve is in fantastic condition. Both sides are bright and clean. The laminate to the front side retains the original lustre. The cover art is vibrant. The reverse shows no sign of discolouration or rubbing. The spine is without wear. The top, bottom and opening edges are all without wear. The top right hand corner has a subtle 'bump'; the other corners are strong.

Inner Sleeve: EXCELLENT

The original inner sleeve is in great condition. It is very clean and displays only mild creasing.

The Beatles - Yellow Submarine

I am pleased to offer for sale this superb, UK mono 1st pressing of The Beatles final film soundtrack, Yellow Submarine.

To fulfil their contractual obligations with United Artists, the Beatles had to produce three films. Yellow Submarine, the animation, was to be their third and final. As the band were not enamoured by either the concept nor the requirement to fulfil contractual obligations, they spent very little effort producing the sound track. Consequently, only four of the thirteen songs are Beatles originals. Whilst the four tracks are excellent in their own right, for me the making of the album is side 2: George Martin's orchestral interpretation of the Beatles sound.

Distributed in 1968, Yellow Submarine was mostly sold in stereo - consequently finding a clean mono record today is difficult. However, as with the majority of the Beatles catalogue it is the mono recording that the majority audiophile collectors prefer. This record therefor presents a fantastic opportunity to add a seldom seen record to your collection.

The labels are the first variant as is evident from the position of the "Sold in U.K. ..." text present on both labels. This was removed from later variants.

This copy comes with the second variant front side laminated Garrod & Lofthouse sleeve with 'MONO' aural indicator text as well as a manufacturers credit on the reverse.

The album is complete with the original apple die-cut black inner sleeve.

As can be heard in the recordings, the record sounds great. The lead ins are quiet. During the dead-wax between tracks only the sound of a rotating stylus can be heard. Due to the nature of Side 2 quiet static can be heard in places but rarely does it impose upon the listening experience. Overall a lovely copy.

Sleeve: EXCELLENT

The sleeve is in fantastic condition. Both sides are bright and clean. The laminate to the front side retains the original lustre and shows just a single ripple to the top left hand side. The cover art is vibrant. The spine is still square with a beautiful crisp edge. The reverse is clean with only small areas of discolouration. The top, bottom and opening edges are all without wear.

Inner Sleeve: EXCELLENT

The original inner sleeve is in great condition. It is very clean, is without any tears or rips, and displays only extremely minor creasing.
