A rare and sought after copy of this 1966 UK 2nd pressing Beatles classic on the yellow & black UK Parlophone label, MONO PMC 7009

The dead wax matrix numbers are :

Side 1  YEX 605 - 2 with stampers "1" and "G 0 T" at 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock respectively

Side 2  YEX 606 - 2 with stampers "1" and "G 0 D" at 4 o'clock and 2 o'clock respectively

The matrix and stamper codes, along with the "DR. ROBERT" sleeve/label mismatch authenticate this as a very early UK 2nd pressing

The appearance of the vinyl is excellent+. Heavy duty, completely flat and when viewed in normal daylight still retaining a beautiful glossy sheen. In fact in normal daylight each side of the vinyl appears to be faultless and it's only under a bright light and when tilted at the right angle that just a few wispy hairlines and very faint paper scuffs come into view - obviously nothing "feelable" or below the surface.  A solid excellent (at least) and so impressive, especially considering it's 52 year old antiquity - I strongly suspect that this vinyl has had far, far less than it's fair share of plays and the quality of the audio (see below) adds further credence to this thought.

The labels are excellent. Perfect apart from just a few faint spindle trails (even fainter than what they appear to be in the photos) adjacent to the centre hole on each side. Note the "K" and "T" tax codes adjacent to the centre hole on the side 1 label, the "SOLD IN UK..." text and the "THE GRAMOPHONE CO LTD..." text on the perimeter of the label - all criteria of an early 2nd pressing. And, of course, on the side 2 label is listed "DOCTOR ROBERT whereas on the sleeve this track is listed as "DR. ROBERT" - indicative of the rarer and even more sought after mispressing!

The front-side laminated and flip back Garrod & Lofthouse outer sleeve is VG+.  The bottom edge and spine remain rigid with no scuffing at all and the iconic front side photography and artwork is completely intact with a rich, vibrant appearance and no laminate lifting (a rarity in itself) - very impressive. There is 1.5cm of scuffing/nicks at the centre of the top edge (see photo). The reverse side is equally impressive with each flip back in near perfect condition apart from the left side of the bottom flip back which has some creasing and rubbing (see photo) and 1cm of scuffing on that same bottom edge adjacent to the open side. The remaining three corners are well defined right angles and there are no doodles or unwanted writing. A solid VG+ with minor blemishes only. 

Finally, the quality of the audio is excellent+. There is wonderful mono tone and clarity throughout and with no distortion, even on the higher frequencies and at higher volume. No skips or clicks and and no background crackle (apart from the very occasional snippet of static, not dissimilar to what you would hear on a brand new record and just the hint of a little, very mild background static/crackle at the beginning of each side - nothing really). Nothing intrusive at all with every track making for a great listen...superb quality MONO audio!

Comes with original plain white inner sleeve with no splits or tears - just a little creasing at the corners -  and in excellent condition. Note that I always post the record in a new plain white inner sleeve in order to protect the original.

In summary a truly EXCELLENT copy of this rare and sought after 1966 UK 2nd pressing MONO Beatles classic, worthy of gracing any Beatles record collection and only continuing to gain in value. The high quality of the audio and the "DOCTOR ROBERT" track listing mismatch make this even more collectable.

On the subject of postage, I take great care in the packaging of all items, using a proper vinyl cardboard mailer along with at least two cardboard stiffeners. I take great care in separating the record from the outer sleeve in order to help prevent sleeve damage in transit and I always insert the vinyl, outer sleeve and inner into a clear plastic sleeve, thus adding further protection.

Mint

The records itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items, such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

Excellent

The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and /or creasing.

Very Good

The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

Good

The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.

Fair

The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents are torn, stained and/or defaced

Poor

The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents are badly damaged or partly missing.

Bad

The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler
