An original 1st issue of Revolver on UK Parlophone from the tie of release. Matrix 2/2. Ok, so lets clear up any confusion with 1st press / 1st issue - FIRST! A very early 1st pressing of Revolver exists with a 2/1 matrix. This is example is NOT the very earliest 1st press. It would have come immediately after the 2/1 iteration - and have been available for purchase around the release date. So, how do we know that this copy is so early - how can we prove it? Well, you need to thoroughly examine the label design. TWO things stand out... Firstly the layout of the label is clearly EARLY - particularly on the Side 1 label. LOOK at how cramped the track-listing and credits are. THIS is the label design you'll find on the very earliest copies [& the 2/1 copies]. Then note the 'Dr. Robert' abbreviated track on side 2. This is a clear indicator of an early copy. John Lennon stepped in early doors at the release date and OBJECTED to the abbreviated track listing. He thought it was misleading given the content of the song. ALL later copies would therein exhibit 'DOCTOR ROBERT'. These early copies are pressed heavy and sound fab. The vinyl comes housed in an original G&L cover with flipbacks. We also have the original generic white - patent applied for inner sleeve. This is perfectly consistent with what you'd have received at 1st release. So, 100% genuine and 100% complete.
Vinyl (Ex/Ex+) An absolutely superb looking original copy. It has clearly only seen slight use. Under close inspection I could only make out a couple of very slight marks per side - nothing troublesome though. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly EXCELLENT+ level of playback with just a couple of minor deviations. Lovely quiet intros and inbetweens and super clarity throughout. And this is particularly hard to find on Revolver. So, so, many copies look good at first sight - but often go on to disappoint. What we have is a good looking copy that ACTUALLY delivers the rendition that anyone fussy will be looking to track down. It plays clean and clear into all those fussy tracks. SLEEPING, HERE THERE, RIGBY,SUBMARINE. Very very few copies will deliver these fussy moments properly clear and clean. Alowing the listener to listen fully and delve deep into the ix. Love it! How could you not be impressed with audio rolling off of these grooves. Ok, so it's not totally perfect. A couple of very slight slip ups. I managed to detect one tick in the opening seconds of tracks 3 & 4. And one solitary pop in the opening to SHE SAID. Personally [and that's just me] - I can live with this providing the track actually plays properly clean. i.e. At a level that 90% of other copies will struggle to match. TNK sounds mind-blowing...definitely the best I've witnessed. Expect nothing more than a few crackles in one isolated spot per side [i.e. very very little at all] Overall a very solid and very impressive rendition. It illustrates, perfectly, just how good Revolver can sound from that elusive thing - a proper clean and original copy. Highly recommended.   Cover (Ex/Ex+) Well, if the vinyl weren't enough to get you interested - what about this cover? That's a white cover - not perfectly white...but certainly getting pretty close to it. I'll mention a couple of things about this cover that are not necessarily noticeable from the photos...That front cover is perfectly flat and shiny - it's like a mirror. There's not one single crease, or even a thumbnail. The rear is just as impressive. I tend to find even a nice looking back 'feels' a bit furry. But this example is remarkable - it has that smooth to the touch surface of a new print. Now that's really smart. Hardly any signs of ageing. All flipbacks are very nice and intact and secure. The spine looks great - with all text legible. It has lost lamination in a couple of spots [no great problem]. Very little edge wear is observable and the openings still nice and firm. The only thing detrimental I can pick out is a tiny 5mm split at the bottom of the opening. That's it really. Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity. Truly remarkable.
