Description

An original 3rd press of PPM on the UK Parlophone from late-spring 1963. Matrix 1N/1N. Tax Code "ZT". Stampers 1-RG/1-RO. Please note 3rd press is denoted by the lack of the text 'recording 1st published' along with no 'Sold In The UK' statement. These are among the earliest copies ever made on the Black and Yellow label and come straight after the highly sought after black and gold copies. The heavy-set vinyl comes housed in an original Ernest J Day cover with Emitex inner sleeve. So, 100% genuine and 100% complete.
Vinyl (Vg+/Ex-) In very nice condition despite having seen a moderate level of use. Do expect a good few marks either side and the odd trail - but nothing heavy or likely to cause significant issue. And remember a lot of these early PPM copies are close on 180gs in weight - which is about as heavy as they go. Playback is very nice for the most part. Side 1 - "very little to complain at at all" and is rated at NEAR EXCELLENT....only minor infrequent interference. Side 2 has seen a bit more use and consequently playback is not quite as clean all the way through - it averages VERYGOOD+ only dipping marginally in a couple of tracks tracks. "E.g. Do you Want To Know A Secret" expect a bit of crackle. It's not invasive - but still audible here and there against the main body of the audio. Overall a very nice level of playback from a truly very early original copy.
Cover (Vg+) Looks to be in great condition and certainly much better than most of these '63 copies that tend to surface. A very nice clean front without ageing. It exhibits a few stress creases at the edges. Then there's one at the middle of the top edge which looks like it has broken through to a degree - but it has been secured by a small amount of tape successfully. The rear looks very smart indeed with only the lightest handling signs. All flipbacks are intact and secure. Edge wear is reasonably light and the spine is 100% intact. Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity and remains a mighty impressive example.
