Description

The Beatles LP          PLEASE PLEASE ME              Mono PMC 1202

4th Pressing LP in EXCELLENT PLUS condition, MT embossed tax coding and ULTRA RARE later Ernest J Day cover with medium sized MONO on front

 RECORD:

A lovely CLEAN and SHINY pressing with remarkably clean labels with very minor faint spindle marks. Side 2 is embossed MT tax code around the spindle hole.

Side 1: XEX 421-1N (2 RPT stampers)

Side 2: XEX 422-1N (1 RPM stampers)

Both sides, excellent, clean, virtually unmarked vinyl, flawless audio on playback. This is an EXCELLENT PLUS piece of vinyl on both sides. Silence between tracks, I heard one or two minor clicks during the whole record. You will be hard pressed to find a better looking and playing record than this!

EMITEX INNER:

The original EMITEX poly lined inner sleeve is probably the cleanest, nearest to mint one I have ever seen! A beautiful example!

OUTER COVER:

This is the EXCEPTIONALLY RARE ERNEST J DAY later cover with a medium sized mono in the top right hand corner. Most of the first to fourth pressings of this LP came in the standard EJ Day flipback cover with the LARGE mono on the front. A very, very few had this smaller, intermediate sized typeface before the Garrod & Lofthouse covers with the much smaller mono typeface from the 5th pressings onwards. Most websites devoted to Beatles cover and record variations do not even document this cover variation as they are so rare, very few people have an example in their collection!

The cover in keeping with the condition of the record is an EXCELLENT example, showing very little wear and tear. All the flipbacks are strong examples, with no peeling or rips. There is just a slight separation in the top right hand corner between the flipback foldovers . There is some slight corner wear and in the top left hand corner has some slight loss laminate covering the front photo but you will be hard pressed to find another one with less wear and tear after nearly 50 years! The only downsides are slight ‘spotting’ on the back, which show up against the whiteness and, a salutation on the back, written in ink; Happy Christmas June, with love from Margaret.

Despite this, it is a fantastic copy overall. The record vinyl is an outstanding example, the inner poly Emitex, near mint, and the cover, an ultra rare later EJ Day version. The spine is very clear and proud also.

This variation of Please Please Me rarely comes up for sale. This one has had one previous owner since early 1964 and has been well cared for and looked after. No reserve or high opening bid!
