The Beatles Match Box b/w Slow Down 7" 45 RPM single

- Capitol 5255
- Spizer cat. no. CAP 5255.01B
- Picture Sleeve
Matchbox, sung by Ringo Starr, is a Carl Perkins cover. In The Beatles' early days, this song was sung by John Lennon. Paul McCartney was also known to do it in concert in the '90s and beyond (or at least sound checks). Surprisingly, mysearches didn't turn up any indication that George Harrison ever sang lead on this one (surprising since Carl Perkins was George's idol).
The B-Side, Slow Down, written by Larry Williams, is one of John Lennon's best all-out rock vocal performances of the early Beatles era. And to think, he never liked the sound of his own voice!
This 7 inch single, released on July 20th, 1964, would go on to reach #17 on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles chart for one week, on October 17th 1964.
This is the original pressing of this 45. It is not a later issue.
Price is OBO (Or Best Offer).
Picture Sleeve VG Record VG
Vinyl ConditionThe vinyl is visually graded VG. There are some very slight surface scratches on both sides, but nothing that looks like it would affect play. Labels have very slight wear, but otherwise are totally clean on both sides; vinyl has some gloss remaining.
Picture Sleeve Condition
The picture sleeve is graded VG.
No splits, rips, writing, or stickers
This is a pretty decent copy of this sleeve. There is one pin hole at the very top, center. There is also some fraying in the edges, especially the top edge. Slight ring wear on both sides, but especially on the Slow Down side.Careful Packaging
Record will be packed in standard cardboard mailer with cardboard filler pieces on each side. Vinyl will be removed from the sleeve (where applicable) and placed in a generic sleeve to help prevent damage due to jostling during shipping. Both will be placed in a protective plastic sleeve. I've bought over a hundred records on eBay recently and I've seen how bad and how good packaging can be. Trust me, I will do what I can to make sure your record gets to you undamaged!
