The Beatles: Help LP. 1st Mono Press. Times New Roman Font. Ex Audio/Sleeve/Org Inner.
KT EMBOSSED TAX CODE TO SIDE 1
EXCELLENT/PERHAPS NEAR MINT AUDIO QUALITY.
PLAY TESTED OCTOBER 18TH.
EXCELLENT AUDIO QUALITY. VERY LITTLE CLICK/POP OR CRACKLE DURING OR BETWEEN TRACKS, AND ABSOLUTELY NO JUMPS, SKIPS, OR STICKING.
Side 1.
Tiny bit of static/surface noise to side 1 intro, followed by very few pops and crackles throughout, and very quiet between tracks.
Side 2.
If anything, side 2 is even better than side 1. Even during the often affected ‘Yesterday’, the audio is superb.
It would be tempting to describe the overall audio experience as near mint, but excellent it certainly is. You won’t be disappointed.
FURTHER INFORMATION.
This is the first mono pressing, produced in August 1965, with Garrod & Lofthouse Ltd. Patents pending front laminated flipback cover, with outline mono on front cover. Black label with yellow logo and silver print. ‘Gramophone Co’ perimeter print, and ‘Sold In U.K.’ text. Housed in a tracing-paper lined Emitex die-cut inner. KT embossed side 1 tax code, with XEX 549-2 & 550-2 matrix numbers.
This pressing, commonly known as Variation A, which used ‘Times New Roman’ font. Small ‘The Beatles’ band name to both sides. Most curiously on side 1, the ‘Northern Songs, NCB’ credit appears below the band name. The side 2 layout differs from the other TNR variants. This was the first TNR label that appeared.
Vinyl Appearance.
Whilst retaining a nice glossy sheen to both sides, there are a small number of marks/hairlines/light scratches. However, there is absolutely no affect to what is truly excellent audio.
Labels.
KT embossed tax code to side 1.
There is some very light spindle ware and marks, along with an original ‘Wells Music Stores’ record shop sticker (maybe removal with care), but is otherwise clean, graffiti free, and has the Times New Roman font.
Side 2 as above, minus the sticker, with a text lay-out different to other TNR variants.
Inner Sleeve.
Original die-cut Emitex inner has some corner creasing, but no seam splits, graffiti etc, and is again in excellent condition.
Sleeve.
Some light/minor creasing to front right (through Ringo’s coat). Some minor spotting to the rear, and light marks/scuffs. A little feathering to opening. Strong, easily legible spine.

Mother: 0 or 9
Stamper: HH
KT embossed tax code to label.
Side 2.
Matrix: XEX 550-2
Mother: 18
Stamper: GGM
In conclusion, this is a lovely, original first press mono press, with truly excellent audio, KT embossed tax code, ‘Northern Songs’ below band name to side 1, original inner, with both vinyl and sleeve in lovely condition, giving an overall grading of excellent.
However, I tend to be quite conservative in my gradings/descriptions, as being a collector myself, I appreciate that accurate and honest grading is paramount. Thus, I retain a 100% positive feedback rating, so rest assured, you can bid with confidence.
