Welcome to 20th Century Collectables
The Beatles – Can’t Buy Me Love Genuine 1964 Parlophone 78 RPM red label
20th Century Collectables is pleased to offer for sale this incredibly rare 78 RPM record of The Beatles – Can’t Buy Me Love – on the red Parlophone label, Cat. No. R 5114 (same as UK issue)
When EMI had their big changeover from 78 rpm records to vinyl in the 1950’s all the pressing equipment that they had once used became obsolete. This pressing equipment was not destroyed but was instead sold off to India, where many households were still without electricity and many were still using gramophone players.
These rare Beatles 78’s although manufactured in India were therefore made on EMI British equipment and can therefore be considered (in some part) to be UK 1st pressings.
This 78 RPM is a genuine and the very earliest 1st issue 78 from 1964 with letter G & G stampers. No ‘mother’ digits were used.
This early copy states ‘This copyright record must not be publicly performed without license.’ Later copies of this 78 had the ‘Gramophone Co.’ rim, similar to the changes that occurred in the UK. Also around the Parlophone £ logo it simply states ‘Trade Mark’ on later pressing this changed to ‘Regd. Td Mks. of the Parlophone Co. Ltd’. The label also carries ‘Recording First Published 1964’, this as with UK pressings changed to (p) 1964 for later pressings. This information positively dates this record to its initial release date of 1964.
Due to the fragility, lack of suitable storage conditions and relatively low sales, very few Beatles 78 rpm records exist today. This record is an ultra-rarity and is for the discerning Beatles collector or investor.

CONDITION
Disc
Visual: VERY GOOD
Some light scuffs and surface marks but nothing which effects play. There are no chips or cracks on the record.
Audio: EXCELLENT+
The record plays perfectly but with the antiquated audio that is 78rpm. The record does not jump or stick.
Labels: VERY GOOD+
Very difficult to get original 78 rpm Parlophone labels in anything above fair condition. These labels are relatively unworn and are clean and bright. There is no rubbing to the silver Parlophone label text and no writing to either label. Considering the rarity of this record a truly superb set of labels.
Sleeve: VERY GOOD
Comes in its original 78 rpm Parlophone sleeve.
