CAPITOL RECORDS PRE-RELEASE PROMOTIONAL COPY

THE BEATLES ~ BEATLES VI (1965)

INCREDIBLY RARE COVER VARIATION WITH A PERFORATED “PROMO” PUNCH

MONARCH LOS ANGELES PRESSING PLANT RIAA 5 ON THE BACK COVER

ORIGINAL VINTAGE 06-09-1965 EXAMPLE OF AMERICA’S FIRST ROCK-AND-ROLL NEWSPAPER “KRLA BEAT” WITH THE ADVERT OF “BEATLES VI” ON THE TITLE PAGE

Stunning collectible “The Beatles VI” set consisting from a Capitol Record pre-release promotional copy of the album and an original insanely rare example of Los Angeles newspaper “KRLA Beat” with an advert for “Beatles VI”. Incredibly rare pre-release promotional copy prepared by Capitol Records for the media and radio stations to promote the album on the West Coast. The cover of this copy contains a special “PROMO” perforated punch in the upper right-hand corner with the “M” having the pointed middle. These covers were ordered by Capitol Records from the Los Angeles-based printing and packaging company Bert-Co Enterprises which was located 20 minutes away from the Capitol Records pressing plant on San Fernando Road where they were delivered to. The back cover with the “(See label for correct playing order)” text above the track listing and RIAA 6 number in the lower right-hand corner. I think it’s impossible to find a promotional copy where the perforation wouldn’t only be on the cover but also, on the original factory shrink wrap. 1st print Capitol Records black multicolor band Mono labels with the Los Angeles plant’s 1.5” pressing ring and the “World of Love” track crediting ASCAP. The full matrix numbers containing the 6-point asterisk "✲", identifying the Los Angeles plant pressing, are as follows: Side 1 – T-1-2358-F-13 ✲;  Side 2 – T-2-2358-F-13 ✲. We couldn’t help but include into this set an incredibly rare, perhaps one of the last remaining examples, original vintage June, 1965 12-page issue of  America’s first rock-and-roll newspaper – “KRLA Beat”. This 11 ½” x 16” Los Angeles newspaper was one of the first to include a review of the “Beatles VI” album premiering on Dick Biondi’s evening show which had the first airplay anywhere in the US and in advance of the album’s official June 14 release. Outstanding issue with a large red “BEATLES VI” banner and a photo of the band from the album with the text reading below “Here’s Exclusive Preview of Beatle’s New Album”. You’ll find the following features related to The Beatles inside the newspaper:

1.     The review of “Beatles VI” album: “KRLA First With Beatles’ Album”. (Page 1 / 11)

2.     The article “Derek Taylor’s Life with The Beatles” (Page 2 / 6)

3.     An advert with a photo of The Beatles offering to present it at Hollywood Wax Museum to receive “FREE BEATLES PIN-UPS”. (Page 2)

4.     “Beatle Quiz” with the still intact mail form. (Page 5)

5.     An article about “Help!” containing a large signed photo of The Beatles with each member’s signature (Page 10)

6.     “KRLA Tunedex” chart with The Beatles’ “Ticket to Ride” occupying the 10th position. (Page 12)

Amazing promotional set featuring the impossible to find Capitol Record promo album and “KRLA Beat” “Beatles VI” issue.

The promotional cover and the inner sleeve are in great Near Mint condition. I grade the glossy vinyl as strong Very Good Plus which would be Excellent Minus if it wasn't due to a couple of very light non-feelable hairlines along with some light scuffs from the inner sleeve. The labels are very clean and in Near Mint Minus condition. The original KRLA Beat issue is in great vintage condition with all of the pages intact. The vinyl sounds great with only some very light occasional static which most likely will go away if the record is professionally cleaned using a VPI cleaning machine.
