Superb copy of the VERY RARE 2nd Pressing with the NORTHERN SONGS music credits on the BLACK and GOLD PARLOPHONE label.
Genuine FIRST PRESSING Ernest J Day COVER with THICK CARD and Angus McBean photo credit in extreme bottom, right corner.
Outstanding poly lined EMITEX inner sleeve.
Side 1: XEX 421-1N (2 RR) Side 2: XEX 422-!N (1RR)
VINYL: Side 1 has a long surface scratch across most of the side plus on the label. This looks like a stylus has scraped across the side. The good news is that apart from about 4 clicks on ‘Ask Me Why’ this does not affect or even sound on playback (even at loud volume). I would grade this side as excellent audio and played loud and clear with minimal background noise on my system. Side 2 is even better and has no clicks or pops to disturb the listening pleasure. Even the gaps between tracks were nice and silent! This record has not been played to death or trashed. It still looks and sounds great. There are no sticks or jumps and apart from about half a dozen clicks, it is almost as perfect as it was in 1963!
The labels show some wear at the spindle hole but not excessively and there are a few other minor marks. Overall they are very good plus, clean and legible with no writing or stickers. I can’t see a tax code on either side.
COVER: The cover is an exceptionally good one after nearly 50 years! It has no writing, ugly marks, tears, rips etc. The Angus McBean photo credit is in extreme the bottom right hand corner on the first press thicker card Ernest J Day sleeve. The flipbacks are all intact apart from a slight curling of the edge on the top, but that is really a minor blemish. The corners show little evidence of bumping or squashing. The rear is still nice and clean and white with just slight ringwear visible. The previous owner did sellotape the top bottom and spine area of the cover not as a repair but as a protector. This has been discreetly done and has ensured that there are no splits or tears along the edges or spine, which is still clear and proud. Overall it is a clear EXCELLENT cover and you would be hard pressed to find one in better condition on a black and gold label record.
The poly lined Emitex inner is a superb example befitting the rest of the record. Clear and strong as the day it was first inserted into the cover!
This is a SUPERB, example of a BROWN and GOLD PARLOPHONE label PLEASE PLEASE ME and would be a fantastic addition to any Beatles LP collection. There is a minimum bid/reserve on this of £150 but given the rarity and condition of this record it is easily worth that! The successful bidder will not be disappointed. This is one to keep!
