Description
Here is an extremely rare 1971 white label MONO promotional pressing of quite possibly the greatest live album ever "Allman Brothers Band at The Fillmore East" on the Capricorn label. As you can see, the gatefold cover has seen better days but considering that this is a 51 year old radio station copy, the front, back, and the inner gatefold are in pretty good shape and are all graded a solid VG. The overall grade for the cover is VG minus due primarily to the worn spine and seam splitting which could very easily be fixed with some kind of adhesive. The real prize here is the vinyl which is visually VG+ overall. There are some paper scuffs from the original inner sleeve and some hairlines on all 4 sides of the vinyl. There are also a few more noticeable surface marks that don't detract from the overall sound quality. In spite of the visual imperfections, the overall play grade for all 4 sides ranges from VG+ to a solid EX on tracks like "Whipping Post", "You Don't Love Me" and "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed". Most of the surface noise that is present is drowned out by the heaviness and loudness of the music which makes up all of the music on this album (as all of you already know). The fidelity of this mono recording is absolutely STELLAR. By far, the best this album has ever sounded to me. Some consider this to be the holy grail of mono promos and I totally agree.
