Condition of jacket: Poor, top and bottom corner both badly damaged and ragged with big chunks missing. Spine edge split almost completely open. Otherwise OK with some light rubbing wear.
Condition of record: Excellent, very glossy, appears almost like new with only some very light scuffing.

The Red Raiders from Texas Tech ? otherwise known as "The Goin' Band from Raiderland" ? the 300 member band with the BIG sound in stereo, has sported this concept since 1959. The stereophonic effect in the stadium is obtained by dividing the band into two equal groups at opposite ends of the playing field. The percussion section ? the feature twirlers ? the high-stepping majorettes ? the twin drum majors?precision drills ? rhythmic routines ? intricate formations can all but be seen in this recording of the annual Scholar-ship Concert in Lubbock Municipal Coliseum, conducted by Dean Killion, Director of Bands; Robert Mayes, Assistant Director of Bands; as well as Richard E. Tolley and Anthony Brittin.
To hear this group in a fine recording such as this makes those who have seen a live performance re-live that occasion ? and those who have not will understand some of the statements of the fans who say is matters not if the football team wins or loses, "We came to see the Goin' Band!"
Undergraduate Michael Astwood's M. M. March, and Texas Tech Ex-student Jeffrey Whitmill's Fanfare contribute to the excellence for which the Texas Tech Band is internationally known. Drum Majors David Lewis and Doug Novak; Assistant Drum Majors Fred Wilmer and James Edwards; and former Drum Major Freddie Hardin all get in the conducting act during the Scholarship Concert... and the band sounds great under each baton!
Above the Caprock in the short-grass country of the Texas Plains, band directors come from Georgia, cow town and state capitols to record the football halftime shows of the Goin' Band. Following television performances, letters arrive from hundreds of fans in almost every state who have been delighted with pin-wheels, circles, collapsing diamonds, constantly changing figures which are just as astounding when seen on slow-motion replay!
Inside the Coliseum ? in spite of the bouncing sound from the vast expanse ? you'll appreciate the more than 350 band members in a surprising repertoire, varying from the highly requested Hill Country to Gonna Fly Now to Sing Me (if you'll close your eyes, you can see the twirlers in their flashing drills on that one) to Going the Distance, along with such favorites as Rhapsody in Blue, Stars and Stripes Forever, and America the Beautiful. In addition, fans who march year after year along with the band from the Music Building to Jones Stadium will never forget the rich, melodic Grandioso march.
