Description
This lot contains ten 10-inch 78 RPM records, all on the early Columbia "gold band" label, which was in use for a few years either side of 1920. They cover a broad range of styles, including popular, dance band, comedy and vaudeville - style descriptions that appear on the labels are added (in parentheses) in the list below. All ten records showed up for the first picture, then they are shown in pairs, both sides, in the following order:
Columbia # A2058 - "Uncle Tom" and "Yaaka Hula Hickey Dula" by Howard Kopp and Samuel Jospe (labeled "drum and piano duet" on both sides)
Columbia # A2427 - "Way Down Yonder in the Cornfield" (Male Voices) and "S. R. Henry's Barn Dance" (Male Voices, Orchestra Accompaniment"), both by Columbia Stellar Quartette
Columbia # A2874 - "Apple Blossoms" and "Old-Fashioned Garden" by Prince's Dance Orchestra (labeled "dance music" on both sides)
Columbia # A3324 - "Palesteena" and "I Wish That I'd Been Born in Borneo" by Frank Crumit (labeled "orchestra accompaniment" on both sides)
Columbia # A3465 - "Tuck Me to Sleep in My Old Kentucky Home" by Edwin Dale and George Reardon; and "My Sunny Tennessee" by the Broadway Quartette (labeled "orchestra accompaniment" on both sides)
Columbia # A3880 - "Morning Will Come" ("comedian with orchestra accompaniment") by Al Jolson; and "When Will the Sun Shine for Me?" ("duet with orchestra accompaniment") by Charles Hart and Elliott Shaw
Columbia # A2732 - "Anything Is Nice if It Comes from Dixieland" ("character song, orchestra accompaniment") by Harry Fox; and "You Can't Blame the Girlies at All" ("baritone solo, orchestra accompaniment") by Arthur Fields
Columbia # A3383 - "Beela Boola" and "Toddle" by the Paul Biese Trio (labeled "dance music" on both sides)
Columbia # A1085 - "The 11:69 Express" ("musical monologue, orchestra accompaniment") by Fred Duprez; and "Darktown Poets" ("comedy vaudeville sketch") by Golden and Hughes
Columbia # A2092 - "Baseball Game" and "The Marriage Market Scene" by Joe Weber and Lew Fields (labeled "comic sketch, orchestra accompaniment" on both sides)
They all look to be in VG+ condition, still nice and shiny, but a few scuffs and scratches, although most of them have very little visible surface wear of any great significance. I've played all 20 sides on my Audio-Technica turntable, and - apart from a mysterious forward jump in the middle of "Beela Boola" - there were no skips or jumps and mostly just typical light background hiss, with some scattered clicks or pops or ticking. Because of variations in tracking ability, filtering technology and needle weights, I can offer no guarantees as to how well they will play on your equipment. Please also check the pictures for any label damage or inscriptions or stickers.
International Buyers – Please Note: Import duties, taxes, and charges are not included in the item price or shipping cost. These charges are the buyer's responsibility. Please check with your country's customs office to determine what these additional costs will be prior to bidding or buying. Customs fees are normally charged by the shipping company or collected when you pick the item up. These fees are not additional shipping charges. We won't under-value merchandise or mark the item as a gift on customs forms. Doing that is against U.S. and international laws.
COMBINED SHIPPING: See our seller list for other interesting and unusual items, in fact bid on several and you might save on shipping and handling. If you buy multiple items, and if it's feasible and cost-effective for us to ship the items together, we will gladly consider requests to combine shipping at a reduced cost. Just e-mail us, and we can provide combined shipping cost estimates on a case-by-case basis. Depending on weight and other considerations, we typically offer full shipping rate for the first item, then 50 cents or $1.00 per item. And if you are purchasing multiple items, please make the payment as a single payment, rather than trying to pay for each item separately. Oh, and this may sound obvious, but we can't reduce the shipping charges for items on which we offer free shipping.
INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING COSTS: If the eBay auto-calculator is not responding, or if you think our shipping costs are too high, please contact us prior to bidding to determine your shipping options and costs. Repeat, prior to bidding, please.
FEEDBACK: Because of abuses we've experienced in the past, we have totally given up on the eBay feedback system, so we neither give nor expect feedback. Please, therefore, do not contact us after the auction asking us to leave feedback. If you ever have a problem with an item you purchase from us, please contact us directly about it before giving negative feedback or seller ratings, and especially before invoking eBay's dreaded Grand Tribunal in processes like "Return Requests" or "Opening an Item Not as Described Case." No one is perfect, and we occasionally mis-describe something, or an item arrives late or gets damaged in the mail, but we are always quick to respond to a problem and set it straight in the most mutually agreeable way.
