Comments: Up for auction is a copy of the wonderfully deranged, surreal, and psychotic Telepaths single. The Telepaths, for those who don't know, were Seattle's first punk band. They formed in '75, put on the very first punk gig in the area (with a band named the Tupperwares...later to become the Screamers), and played around until '78, when they released this record and split up. Members of this band were previously in the SNots (anyone have their 7" for trade?), and would go on to form the Blackouts. When the Blackouts finally split, half the band (give or take) joined Ministry. After that I don't really know or care what happened.

The Telepaths on this record are:

• Bill Rieflin - drums (later in the Blackouts, Ministry, some other bands, and currently in REM)
• Kurt Werner - vocals
• Eric Werner - lead guitar (later in the Blackouts and Toiling Midgets)
• Homer Spence (RIP) - rhythm guitar
• somebody else - bass

Musically this is completely unhinged, creative, and LOUD. "Frozen Darling" is about girl biting the heads of peacocks and builds towards a bewildering crescendo of noise and surreal imagery. "Must I Perform" sounds like a medley of two songs. The first is sparse, funky, and doesn't excite me very much. The second is rockier, noisier, and all-around better--it even devolves into a minute long morass of guitar feedback and throbbing bass. Definitely presaging the Blackouts, but much more chaotic than anything the Blackouts did.

Anyway, this record is insanely rare and was never issued in a sleeve. This is dead stock, unplayed and with no discernable wear. It is a little dusty, however. You won't be disappointed--I grabbed one of these for myself and there's not even a whisper of surface noise.

GRADING

Grading is sleeve first, then the record(s), then the insert (if any). A lot of ebay sellers advertise their used records as "unplayed," which is almost always BS. I will only describe records as unplayed if I got them straight from band members or as dead stock from record stores/distros/labels/etc.

Grades are:

• Still Sealed - Record is still in shrink or loose wrap. I can only grade a sealed record's cover, not the disc itself.
• NM - Near Mint. The record appears brand new with little or no signs of wear, perhaps a few small scuffs from the paper sleeve, but nothing more serious than that. The record should have a beautiful luster. Sleeves show no appreciable wear. The corners may be bumped, but aren't smashed.
• EX - Excellent. The record looks beautiful, but shows signs of being played and handled carefully. There may be a small scuffs on the record, and some spindle trails on the labels, but the record will still have a nice shine to it. Sleeves show minor wear, but nothing noticable.
• VG - Very Good. The record has been used, but not abused. There will be some scuffing, and maybe a couple light scratches. The grooves are starting to lose their luster. Sleeves will show some wear and dirtiness and may have a small split.
• G - Good. The record has been used and abused. It's got scratches and scuffs galore, but will play through. Sleeves will show heavy wear and may have large splits. I do not accept returns or offer refunds on records graded G.
• P - Poor. The record has been thrashed. It will be covered in scratches and scuffs, and may not even play through. Sleeves will be pretty much destroyed: smashed corners, massive splits, writing, and heavy ringwear are to be expected. I do not accept returns or offer refunds on records graded P.
