Condition:

This vinyl has been used and loved. The paper case/sleeve has some stains, rips and wrinkles but has protected the vinyl pretty well. The condition of the vinyl appears to be VG to VG+ (see below). PLEASE NOTE THAT I HAVE NOT PLAYED OR TESTED THE RECORD SO I CANNOT CONFIRM THE CONDITION OF THE SOUND/MUSIC. The extra art collage image dials have scratches on them from normal wear and tear. The outside plastic cover has scratches as well and is a little discolored from age (happens with light and heat).

Talking Heads, the "ultimate art rock" band produces an album with the "ultimate art rock" cover.

Robert Rauschenberg was a major figure in the art world from the early sixties on. Primarily grouped with the "Pop" art movement his work usually defied categories and description. David Byrne approached him after viewing one of his New York shows to do a cover for this album. Rauschenberg, never being conventional, decided to "re-invent" the concept of an album cover.

This cover is larger than typical cover size and consists of a plastic clamshell cover with three movable printed plastic discs. Supposedly the colored discs can be aligned to produce a full color image but I have never been able to do it. It is said that 50,000 copies of this cover were produced.

Music: The Talking Heads crank out the funk on this one with great tracks like "Burning Down The House", "Swamp", "Slippery People" and "This Must Be The Place". A strong album all the way through.

The packaging, designed by Robert Rauschenberg, is a transparent plastic case with artwork and credits printed on 3 12" circular transparent collages, one per primary color.

BIO:

They are now best known for their first four albums, which are all essential listening in post-punk, new-wave and art-rock music. Talking Heads 77, their debut, wasn’t a commercial success, but it featured a minor hit in “Psycho Killer” which alerted music fans to the band's potential. Now 77 is properly regarded as being among the best debut albums of the 70s. In 1978 they began working with Brian Eno on production duties, and the result, More Songs About Buildings And Food, was marginally more popular than 77. Included was a cover of Al Green’s “Take Me to the River” which breached the Top 30. Their second collaboration with Eno (and third album overall) was Fear of Music, which again won them critical plaudits but little commercial success. Finally in the fantastic four, Remain in Light (1980) was perhaps their best effort, featuring the innovative use of African rhythms in a rock album. Many critics consider Remain in Light among the best albums of the 80s.

Talking Heads made more of a commercial breakthrough in the 80s, with hit singles like “Burning Down the House”, “And She Was” and “Road to Nowhere”. Their 1984 concert film, Stop Making Sense, where the band construct the stage as part of their performance, is often regarded as among the best concert films released. In the late 80s the band drifted apart and, in 1991, leader David Byrne officially announced they had split.

MINT : Pristine, perfect and flawless

NM NEAR MINT The record should show no obvious signs of wear. The very slightest signs of use, truly near mint. May have few signs of wear on the cover and/ or few slight paper scuffs on the vinyl. Plays perfectly

NM- NEAR MINT MINUS  The record will show some signs that it was played and handled by a previous owner who took good care of it. There should be no obvious defects (Scratches/Warps).

E : Light use is evident. The beginnings of light wear will be evident on the cover and some surface scuffs will apear on the vinyl BUT record will playwith no surface noise.

VG++ : Use is evident but not bad. Cover has some ring wear along with some rub along the edges, spine and the corners along the spine. Record has some marks , very light scratches.

VG+ : Average use record, looks OK, plays OK, some noise is possible. Record has most of the original gloss. Record was played but was well cared for.

VG : Cover shows more than normal wear and vinyl has some groove wear or several scratches or some significant scratches. This record will play with noise that does not overwhelm the music.

G : Significant surface noise, scratches, visible groove wear , may skip or repeat.
