Description
THE REASON I'm selling these two individually quite rare records as one lot is because OTTO GRAY'S OKLAHOMA COWBOY BAND's "ADAM AND EVE," on a 1928 Electrobeam Gennett; and DAN HORNSBY's "HISTORY IN A FEW WORDS," on a December, 1930 "Hillbilly" Columbia - - actually are the SAME song!
These practically identical (but musically quite different) renditions tell the history of the human race, from Adam and Eve through Noah and the Flood, Jonah and the Whale, Columbus, Admiral Dewey, the Spanish-American War and World War I, on up to the development of Henry Ford's Model A. The Dan Hornsby record, being three years newer, updates history with an additional verse about Hoover and the Depression! They are fascinating separately, but together, they're a CONSPIRACY! Greater Than The Sum of Their Parts and all that.
The flip side of the Otto Gray is "IT CAN'T BE DONE," a "what if" of impossible feats, kissing-cousin to "Haywire" Mac McClintock's Victor of "Ain't We Crazy?"
The "B" of the Dan Hornsby is "THE LUNATIC'S LULLABY," which suggests that people in mental asylums are probably saner than the general population.
This original 1928 "Electrobeam" Gennett 6376 is in mostly intact EE- condition, some minor abrasion and scratches.
This original 1931 "Hillbilly" Columbia 15628-D nominally is in VV+ condition. At first glance, it looks thrashed, but on playing, the actual sound is a remarkably distortion-free and respectable V++. Moderate scratches.

These records come from my private collection, which I have been accumulating since 1967, and now am downsizing! My highest priority in these eBay auctions is to give you the best possible idea of a record’s true condition and aesthetic value. I always post at least four clear images, showing the record fore and aft, a close-up of the label, and the whole disc, warts and all. If my purple prose won’t cut it, the pictures will! Shipping is done with expert care. Your record will brave Media Mail in a stout corregated box, between four sheets of cardboard and a couple of “packers.” I hope you are amused by these descriptions, and by the quality of service being offered.
