A cult clustered around Y Kant Tori Read (the name of the band and the LP) when Tori Amos became famous three years later with the confessional Little Earthquakes. The singer/songwriter then distanced herself from Y Kant Tori Read, which she explained reminds her of struggling in California and other things she doesn't want to remember (some detailed in "Me and a Gun"). Go back to Pat Benatar's rendition of Bush's "Wuthering Heights" to get the gist of this '80s romp: the true-blue "Cool on Your Island" and "Floating City" invoke Madonna; Amos almost raps in the Abdul-ish "Fayth"; "Pirates" showcases a Miami Vice backdrop; Berlin also haunts several tracks, including guilty pleasure "Heart Attack at 23." However, traces of Amos' future niche do kindle in "Fire on the Side." The kooky closing trilogy (wherein she wonders if she's a witch) achieves some uniqueness. Thus, Y Kant Tori Read beams much sunnier than the bleak '90s Amos catalog, but also floats away weightless. As for the bonuses, "Song for Eric" pulls a Sinead O'Connor. Apparently, except for Tori, the Y Kant Tori Read band didn't make the vinyl. Cheap Trick's Rick Nielsen and Robin Zander actually sing backup on this collector's item oddity. Other personnel includes Guns n' Roses stickman Matt Sorum, Steve Farris of Mister Mister, and keyboard journeyman Kim Bullard (who co-wrote many of the tunes). -- All Music Guide

Gorgeous copy of this rarity from nearly 20 years ago!
Most copies we've come across are somewhat worn out; the copy being offered is in excellent shape! There is light wear to the spine but all the seams are strong. There is also a bend in the lower left corner.

The vinyl is EXCELLENT with one mark which doesn't affect play. Lyric inner sleeve is also in EXCELLENT condition.

"MASTERDISK" stamp in the trailoff groove confirms that this is the REAL DEAL!

RECORD GRADING POLICY

MINT = like new or near new with only one or two small insignificant defects, a 9 or better on a 1-10 scale

EXCELLENT = Would be Near Mint, except for a couple of light hairlines or scuffs, which do not affect play

VG++ = still a very nice record with all or nearly all of its original gloss but may have a few more light, surface marks, hairlines, needle tracks or the like which should not materially effect play

VG+ = a nice, but used record that may have a series of light scuffs or scratches. It probably plays with a few pops, but has no serious problems.

VG = a well-used record that still should sound OK when played, but may have moderate surface noise, pops, etc.

VG- = a very well-worn record that plays through without skipping, but will do until a better copy comes along.

Good = not actually good at all but probably will play through but with much in the way of surface noise, pops, crackles, etc. Still, will have no cracks, chips or the like

Fair = you’re getting this record just to own but not to play

Poor = the sky’s the limit, generally I will discard a record this bad (and sell the cover, jacket or sleeve alone) unless the label holds some particular interest
