PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question. OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In order to meet that goal, we will ALWAYS work with our customers on any concerns that may arise. In the unlikely instance that you feel the need to open a resolution dispute before working with us, you will immediately be blocked from any further chance to acquire the rare music we present each and every week. Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Please keep in mind our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office.Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has became very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable and will result in blocking the bidder. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our 8000 plus positive feedback. We use a VPI machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery. We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. Please give us 5 stars in each category through the feedback system, and we will be able to effectively continue to fulfill your passion for rare and collectible music! We have served thousands of satisfied customers - far more than our feedback records indicate - and our aim is to continue to do so. RARE PROMO 1973 ORIGINAL + SONG TITLES STICKER
DEAD HEAD CLASSIC
The GRATEFUL DEAD
Wake Of The Flood
\ USA - Grateful Dead Records - GD 01 (PROMO)
TOP COPY! MINTY CLEAN...
Very rare 1973 advance release PROMOTIONAL with special embossed (raised) lettering at top cover reading "Compliments Of" (The Grateful Dead") ...we've never come across another copy like this... contains the (very rare) song titles sticker on back cover (see picture #2) ...the song titles sticker was only on first pressings and quite rare as most folks tore off the outer cellophane wrapper and there went the song titles sticker too....
After completing their nine-title/dozen-disc deal with Warner Brothers, the Dead began their own record labels: Grateful Dead Records (for group releases) and Round Records (for solo projects). Wake of the Flood was the first Dead disc issued entirely under the band's supervision -- which also included manufacturing and marketing.
Marin County in Northern California is where the Grateful Dead made its home for most of its career, and WAKE OF THE FLOOD evokes the laid-back hippy vibe of the place better than any other album. Some of the Dead's best songs are within "Wake Of The Flood": The plaintive "Row Jimmy" and "Stella Blue," "Here Comes Sunshine," and the incomparable "Eyes of the World," surely one of Hunter's wisest lyrics, set to a joyful groove that makes you feel like a summer morning. Jerry's voice is very relaxed; his friendly, wavering pitch and whimsical guitar work gluides through the material so smoothly...The Grateful Dead now like some psychedelic hillbillies in overalls with a straw hanging from their teeth. Ah, but these hayseeds have a twinkle in their dilated pupil eyes. The album is laid back yet full of subtle power. Some of the laid back nature of the music can definitely be heard as energy being barely contained. Backing vocal harmonies play heavily through out this album. The album has a nostalgic groove and we can almost see Garcia winking his way all the way through it. The lyrics are truly amazing within the songs weaving together a story through the entire album.
The album begins in a low key fashion with the beginning of "Mississippi Half-Step Uptown Toodleoo". The chorus refer to "southern skys" and in the lyrics the story teller "prays for better weather". The pace of the music in this song is deliberately slowed down and one gets the feeling the listener is being teased if not being put on.
"Let me sing your blues away" is the most up beat of the songs. Here again we have the theme of weather ("not a cloud in the sky, such a sunny day"). The third song "Row Jimmy" contains this gem of a haiku "Here's a half a dollar if you dare double twist if you hit the air"
The musical aesthetic set up in Row Jimmy is continued but in a slower bluesy fashion in "Stella Blue" The lyrics in Stella Blue does an interesting thing- they seem to refer back to the music. Stella Blue itself is played in a blues style. The line in the song "dust off those rust strings just one more time " comes when Garcia indeed does. The album ends with "Weather Report Suite" and although it is a little bit different, it is quite beautiful. It is very fitting end as all the songs on the album has a panoramic feeling of the weather.
A neglected masterpiece.
