Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Please keep in mind our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office. Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has became very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable and will result in blocking the bidder. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our 8000 plus positive feedback. We use a VPI machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery. We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. SELDOM SEEN 1967 ORIGINAL PRESS which was only a small limited release on the private press UPI label and sold locally in California...
Back in the eighties when collectors around the globe started catching the BUZZ on psychedelic & garage relics, the 1967 FAPARDOKLY LP was one of the small groups of "have to have" rarities ... things haven't changed much is the status level here when anyone would be hard pressed to find a better example of highly infectious crafted melodies soaked in the 'now' sounds of the hip sixties. Though FAPARDOKLY were considered an enigma in the world of '60s rock collectibles, that being said, there was never a group called Fapardokly; the 12 songs on their self-titled album were recorded by Merrell & the Exiles, a Southern California group spear-headed by legendary cult rocker Merrell Fankhauser. That group cut several singles for the tiny Glenn label before heading off in a psychedelic direction and mutating into H.M.S. Bounty who recorded one brilliant album. The equally tiny UIP label decided to gather a few of the Glenn singles, add a few more psychedelically oriented tracks that Merrill and his group had recorded, and release the package as the work of a group called Fapardokly. Although it was not recorded or intended as a unified work, it stands as one of the great lost psychedelic-rock classics of the '60s. Fankhauser went on to make more excellent obscure recordings with H.M.S. Bounty in the late '60s and the outstanding Mu in 1971.
It was here where Merrill Fankhouser from the desert area of Antelope Valley California began to grow as a songwriter and musician. Fankhauser would soon discover a 14 year old Jeff Cotton (Captain Beefheart Magic Band phenom) and eventually the two would form the Exiles. The Exiles played a kind of beat music influenced by the British Invasion. Though EVERY track on this alum is a bonafide "killer" one of the gems highlighted on this album is " Tomorrow’s Girl," a nice, downbeat Zombies inspired tune that had real potential - but NO backing. In all the Exiles would release 3 singles in the mid 60s of which none would result in any kind of commercial success (though they all could have.) There would be numerous lineup changes throughout 65-66, a time period in which Captain Beefheart would convince both John French and Jeff Cotton to join his then new "Magic Band." Even through all this, Fankhauser was able to record some top shelf psychedelic-rock tracks and eventually the release of the Fapadokly album happened, albeit in small quantity, in 1967. The tracks were more sophisticated than many of the more popular tracks of the era, recorded at both Gold Star and Gary Paxton Studios in Hollywood CA.
The album opens up with "Lila," an excellent, shimmering happening-sounds nugget that recalls the best aspects of the Byrds’ Fifth Dimension LP. The next track, the "Music Scene," had a clear west coast-psych sound of the best kind and lyrically explains Fankhauser’s frustrations with the music industry. "Super Market" is yet another high note with its beautiful 12 string acoustic guitar runs and psychedelic lyrics. Possibly the best tracks are "Gone To Pot" and the highly infectious "Mr. Clock" were both successful forays into 1966 psychedelia. The former track begs strong comparisons to the Byrds’ Eight Miles High and overall is an incredible forge into 'raga-rock.' The whole album is a true gem of mid 60s folk, rock and psychedelic fixings, and major labels totally blew it when they missed the obvious opportunity to properly market this bands engaging sound.
