I'm selling this from in my own collection, one of the rarest Beatles long playing albums.
But firstly, this album isn't for everyone...
If Beatles record collecting to you is more than buying all the coloured variations of the latest "limited edition - instant collectors item" this album may well be for you.
Moreover, if you appreciate the honesty and authenticity of original pressings then this album DEFINITELY is for you.
For true Beatles connoisseurs here is a chance to pick up one of the rarest of all commercially released albums featuring The Beatles - an original June 1962 German Mono release of Tony Sheridan and the Beat Brothers "My Bonnie".
If you're still reading then I know you already know your stuff, that this is the first ever appearance of the Beatles on a 12" long playing record.
You also know how hard to find this album is. You can't just pop down to your local second-hand record dealer (if you have one in your town) and expect him to have one. Copies don't pop up too readily on eBay either. Even when one does appear it's a re-pressing, or if it is an original, it's more than likely pretty worn and scratched.
As well as being a true vinyl rarity it's a historical artefact too.
It's hard now to imagine a time when the Beatles were virtually unknown, but unless you lived in Liverpool and attended the Cavern Club or lived in Hamburg Germany and frequented clubs like the Top Ten or the Star Club you would have no idea who the Beatles were.
When The Beatles recorded with Tony Sheridan Stuart Sutcliffe was still in the band and was present during the recordings (although McCartney handled his bass parts) and Pete Best was still the drummer. This album was released the same month that the Beatles were "auditioning" for George Martin; two months before Ringo Starr made his entrance into the group.
You have all your original pressings of Beatles albums on your shelves, multiple variations all arranged in chronological order - BUT! The actual story of The Beatles recorded history doesn't begin with your Gold label Please Please Me. This is the LP that will take up position one on your album shelf, the VERY first beginning of Beatles recordings.
How does this album stack against other collectible/rare Beatles vinyl? Well, for example there are currently 10 Gold Label Please Please Me's for sale on eBay right at this moment, 11 red label Love Me Do's, 2 red label Please Please Me's, 8 Revolvers with the early mix, half a dozen of each of the 1978 coloured vinyl export albums, countless Let It Be 1970 box sets, but only one original June 1962 German Tony Sheridan & The Beat Brothers album - this one.
Cover ===== Have you heard the phrase "rough around the edges"? Well this is an apt description! The edges are where the sleeve has suffered most. The cover itself is known to be fragile to begin with. (The construction was definitely no match compared to Garrod & Lofthouse UK originals) Wear on the spine has caused a split, but not all the way down, and many moons ago someone has used some now yellowing sellotape one third along the top. However the cover is still intact and in no danger whatsoever of falling apart.
The colour printing is still vibrant even though the white has some yellowing with an appropriate amount of general 60 years old-ish ness!!
Quality I would grade as Fair, which is a shame because of the following:
Vinyl ===== Whilst the sleeve has been taking the brunt of 60 years, it has done it's job well protecting the vinyl as you will see in the photos it is pristine! I am confident in saying you will never find a better copy of the actual 60 year old record itself. It has NO scratches or pops AT ALL. Super smooth vinyl, no groove distortion from old heavy tracking record players, no chewed up spindle hole. CHECK THE PHOTOS!
The noise floor of the vinyl is super low - virtually no crackle - just tiny tiny little static type tics that you really need to stand beside your speakers to hear (and even then it's only between certain tracks).
Quality I would grade as Near Mint. It's better than EX or EX+, as there aren't even any hairlines! SERIOUSLY good for such a vintage record.
In 2020 this album sold for £460 and in 2019 for 589 Euros - both with pops, clicks scratches, jumps and chewed up spindle holes - whilst another sold through Discogs without it's sleeve, which goes to show how hard to find it is.
