Bearsville BR 2133. Diecut corner designed gatefold original lp vinyl. Printed color lyric inner sleeve. RARE - hard to find STERLING "RL" etch first press off the master, the only pressing to be made from the original master! Play-Tested! Great sounding pressing except for a single skip during trk#1 on Side A and a click/pop or two near the end of the same side. I think I also heard 2 tiny clicks on Side B - but otherwise excellent overall sound throughout! Excellent shape cover and ex shape lyric sleeve! Original bandaid Patti Smith poem insert included (with small creases near the edges) (see photos) - but still in good shape. Matrix: "BR 2133 31554 - 1E STERLING RL / BR 2133 31555 - 1F STERLING RL" (sterling is stamped, RL is etched) The first issue on vinyl (identifiable by the notation "STERLING RL" written in the trail-off), the only pressing made from the original master, has the best fidelity RARE! There is a small split in the lower right side of the jacket seem (can easily be fixed). I show it in the photos. Otherwise the jacket - spine/sides, etc. look really great! The album, and especially the first side of the vinyl recording, is an extended medley after the fashion of the Beatles' late recordings; brief songs segue into one another, and the lyrics are frequently humorous or hallucinatory. The first side features a cover version of "Never Never Land" from the Broadway version of Peter Pan; the second side features a much-applauded medley of covers of R&B hits. Its length (55:56) pushed the limits of just how much music could fit on a long-playing record; as a result, the sound quality of this LP is in most cases less than stellar and the volume lower. Acknowledging that on the album cover, which was packed with his handwritten notes, Rundgren advised listeners to crank up their Victrolas accordingly. The compact disc version was thought to avoid these difficulties. The first issue on vinyl (identifiable by the notation "STERLING RL" written in the trail-off), the only pressing made from the original master, has the best fidelity; finding one in near mint condition is not easy. Arthur Wood made the curious cover painting that is featured on the original recording. First issues of the vinyl LP included a "band aid" poem written by Patti Smith, a short bio about the album, and a postcard encouraging purchasers to send in their names to be included on a poster in Todd's next album.
