Here we have Italian baritone Titta Ruffo, the "Voce del leone" ("voice of the lion").

He was one of the few singers who could command the same kind of fees as his contemporary, Caruso.

According to the internet, which is of course NEVER WRONG, he was named Ruffo after his father’s favourite dog.

Ruffo is actually his forename.

This record is “I due granatieri” (“The Two Grenadiers”) a song by Robert Schumann.  

Walter B. Rogers conducts the studio orchestra.

It’s a nice tidy and clean 12” HMV single-sided disc with a PINK label. It was recorded in April 1915 in Camden, New Jersey. The number is 2-052103 and this is the same recording as Victor 88527.

It is remarkably clean and plays beautifully. Using the vague and confusing VJM grading system, we reckon it’s more-or-less an E.
