The members of this band have been around the block a few times. First there was the Birthday Party, from the ashes of which arose Crime and the City Solution with ex- Birthday Party guitarist Rowland S. Howard. After two years and three releases, Howard had his differences with singer Simon Bonney and left, taking his bass-playing brother Harry and drummer Epic Soundtracks (ex-Swell Maps/Jacobites) with him. Adding keyboardist Genevieve McGuckin, he formed These Immortal Souls in 1987.

The 30-minute Get Lost (Don't Lie!) mini-LP works as well as, if not better than, any Crime and the City Solution record. Howard can't really sing much, but this doesn't require him to: the shady lyricism which underlies all seven tracks would lose its colour if sung by someone more conscious of pitch than self. McGuckin has listened to plenty of Ray Manzarek; Soundtracks turns in brilliant performances. Most of the guitar work is acoustic strumming, although Howard does allow himself to cut loose on "'Blood and Sand' She Said."

Led by guitarist Rowland S. Howard of the Birthday Party, These Immortal Souls wander through the haze of smoky cabarets and faded photos worn at the edges on their full-length debut. Throughout this bleak and paranoid midnight journey, the band plays dark marches ("Marry Me [Lie! Lie!]" and "Hide"); Velvet Underground-inspired, repetitive, piano rock ("Hey! Little Child"); and atmospheric Doors-meets-Bowie sombre rock & roll ("These Immortal Souls"). They even cover the song "Hey! Little Child" by Big Star power pop genius Alex Chilton.

This monumental album by dark poets of the soul -- Rowland S. Howard, Genevieve McGuckin, Harry Howard, and Epic Soundtracks (founder of the Swell Maps who, sadly, was found dead in 1997) -- draws from sources such as Leonard Cohen, the Rolling Stones, and even Joy Division while completely avoiding the trappings of the Goth genre. Simultaneously rocking, strangely beautiful, and scary, These Immortal Souls made up a short but brilliant branch of the Birthday Party lineage that wrongly goes far less noticed than the Bad Seeds.

We offer combined shipping on all LPs / 12" Vinyls: our shipping rates are listed above. HOWEVER shipping packages that weigh more than 2kg is VERY expensive. Therefore we can only offer combined shipping up to a maximum of SEVEN (7) LPs / 12" vinyls. Any extra purchases will be invoiced, packaged and shipped separately.

***Due to the physical logistics of how I can package orders, I will not combine box sets with other items, I will only package them individually***

PAYMENT

I would appreciate payment within seven days of the auction’s end. If you want to bid on more of my auctions ending a week later please inform me. I will wait and issue a combined invoice at the close of the second week’s auctions.

However, I am no longer willing to carry combined transactions beyond two weeks and in these cases would appreciate payment promptly after the close of the second week’s auctions.

I am sorry to have to introduce these measures – I always try to be patient and allow buyers to bid on extra auctions and / or delay payment. Unfortunately some buyers have been stretching out transactions to unacceptable lengths so I feel I have no option but to limit ‘carried over’ transactions to two weeks.
