The Yes Album is the third album by British progressive rock band Yes. The first release to feature 24-year-old guitarist Steve Howe, the album was released on Atlantic Records in February 1971 in the UK, a month later in the United States. This was the album that finally set Yes's career alight, with the album reaching #4 in the UK and, eventually, #40 in the U.S., where it was a platinum seller. This was also the last Yes album for over twelve years to feature keyboardist Tony Kaye until his return in 1983's 90125!!!!!.
The Yes Album set the stage for the band's route to superstardom with Fragile and Close to the Edge. This was their first commercial success and, reportedly, it had to be or Atlantic was going to cut them loose!!!!
Many features for which Yes became known are demonstrated for the first time on The Yes Album!:
- The "democratic" balance of the band — with each member making his own significant contribution — is seen here for the first time!!!!!!.
- Steve Howe appeared with the band for the first time and played a very prominent role throughout. His solo acoustic tune, "Clap" (forever renamed "The Clap" by Anderson's mis-introduction on the live track) has always been a concert favourite of the band and their fans!!!!!!!.
- The band began to explore longer songs with "Yours Is No Disgrace," "Starship Trooper," and "Perpetual Change," foreshadowing the many album-side-length tracks that followed on Close to the Edge, Tales from Topographic Oceans and Relayer!!!!!!!.
- In many parts of the song "Clap", Steve Howe uses an open-string guitar chord method to achieve an airy effect, resulting in a sound wherein the listener might believe that the song is being played as a guitar duet!!!!!.
- The spacey, electronic-sounding guitar effect in "Starship Trooper" was achieved via a flanger, a device that was relatively new at the time of the recording!!!!!!.
- Their first keyboard player, Tony Kaye, preferred the simple Hammond B-3 and piano over the "new" (at the time) Moog synthesizers that Anderson was interested in using. This became a cause of contention within the band and had an influence on the line-up change, bringing in Rick Wakeman from Strawbs and his array of electronic keyboards!!!.
The Yes Album is generally considered a classic 1970s rock album and a highlight of the band's long career. The songs "Starship Trooper" and "I've Seen All Good People" are still staples of classic rock radio. In 2000 !!!!!
- "Yours Is No Disgrace" (Jon Anderson/Chris Squire/Steve Howe/Tony Kaye/Bill Bruford) – 9:41

The Vinyl
On visual initial inspection this vinyl looks absolutely superbe like new!!Still retains its original glossy sheen from new!! This is the original heavier thicker type of vinyl with deeper grooves only found on these original 1st pressings!!! They are also more robust than later pressings which were more flimsier!!!! In strong light only can possibly be seen very light whispy sleeve removal marks Please note I can't see any needle scratches at all! Cesrtainly (no) marks that are audio sounding! I have played this through track for track as usual and the audio is rated at the top! This is cristal clear and vibrant through out. This plays with (no) signs of any distortion or that this has been overplayed at all!!!! I would class myself as highly critacle! This has been played on a top system at very loud volume and is awesome! Please look at my completed listings of records that i have sold of this calaber and you will see that i normally get it right!!!! Audio is graded at the top!!! You will find the audio quality on this vinyl hard to surpass!!!!! NEVER NEED TO UPGRADE FROM THIS ALBUM!!!!!!!!
Please note! This has been stored in a case for at least 25 years! ,and would benefit from a constant clean before each play to reduce any static crackle that may be heard during some quiet parts! from my experiance build up of dirt and dust trapped in the grooves over the years cause this and subsequent cleaning does greatly improve the audio quality!!!!!
Please note! I always make this disclaimer! Please allow for the odd static crackle (not) consistant throughout the audio! Although i never heard any problems at all and have given my honest opinion, this is a genuine 37 year old vinyl (not a reissue) that would have originally been played on a 37 year old system!!!!
The Labels
Feature th plum\red Atlantic labels (only 1st press) are awesome!! Any spider marks that can be seen under a light can be counted ! This has only ever been played a handful of times in 37 years! UNBELEIVABLE!!!!!
The Record Sleeve
This is the original poly lined atlantic sleeve with no splits or tares just light creasing\staining with age! becoming very fragile and is now stored seperately from the vinyl!!!!!
The Cover
This is the original 1st press ''MacNeill Press Ltd'' printed gatefold cover! Very Very hard to find originals in this condition! Please note! I have often seen these covers swapped for later covers! THIS IS THE ORIGINAL features ''Atlantic Super' in a box at the rear of the cover later covers do not! Also features ''Manufactured by Polydor Records'' Later covers feature wea records! Also this has the green tinted picture on the back! (only 1st press covers!!!
This is strong and straight as it should be! very very minimal rubbing to the edges indeed! Amaiingly hardly any real creases to talk of! Any marks on this cover you would really have to look hard under a strong light! very small dig on front cover (hardly noticable unless you look for it) Very Very minimal storageware indeed!!! ABSOLUTELY UNBELEIVABLE TO SEE THESE ORIGINAL 1ST PRESS COVERS LIKE THIS!!!37 YEARS OLD!!!!!
