Description
Here's a one-off rarity for all you hardcore collectors out there. This is a one-sided pre-release EMI acetate of The Yardbirds' classic February 1965 #1 hit For Your Love. As has been well documented, disagreements over the band's direction led to Eric Clapton's departure from the band soon after it was recorded, making it an important piece of British pop history.
As it happens, my band The Ingoes shared a manager with The Yardbirds, the legendary Giorgio Gomelsky. We supported The Yardbirds at their final gig with Eric at Giorgio's Crawdaddy Club in Richmond. The audience, who were all faithful Yardie fans, were furious that he was leaving, and didn't applaud once during their set (to prove their point). And then when we came on they went wild! I remember Eric being very glum backstage, though he did tell me how much he liked my guitar case. But I digress.
The fragile disc is in lovely condition, with a few minor surface marks but no serious scratches or wear. I can't tell you how it sounds or whether it's the same version / mix as the released single, but it has a timing of 2:28 written on the label, while Wikipedia lists the released single as running 2:30.
I will ship the acetate anywhere in the world, but must insist on sending it via registered mail.
