Next to "The Who Sell Out" the masterpiece of the band. Such a balance of pure rock violence (Entwistle and Moon were hardly ever better!) And brilliant arrangements are rarely heard, then and now. Roger Daltrey sang pretty much everyone back then, and Pete Townshend's songwriting was at its peak. After the universal release, which is indispensable for repertoire reasons (with 2 additional LPs full of bonus material!), The "must have" comes from the tonal point of view of Classic Records, more powerful than ever ... Do you know all versions of the rock classic "Who's Next"? Well, now there is a new one and it seems that with this record, mastered by Bernie Grundman, the sonic feasibility was achieved. Although the character of a 70s rock disc has largely been maintained, there is unlikely to be an issue of this title that is so full in the bass and so warm and powerful at the same time in the quieter passages. Hits like "Behind Blue Eyes" or "Will not Get Fooled Again" have never been out of the speakers, that's artful Rock'n'Roll at its best! .............

Who's Next is the fifth studio album by English rock band the Who. It developed from the aborted Lifehouse project, a multi-media rock opera written by the group's Pete Townshend as a follow-up to the band's 1969 album Tommy. The project was cancelled due to its complexity and conflicts with Kit Lambert, the band's manager, but Townshend was persuaded to record the songs as a straightforward studio album.
Who's Next rose phoenix like from the flames of what was Pete Townshend's abandoned rock opera "Lifehouse." Classic songs that were used are "Baba O'Reily," "Bargain," "Behind Blue Eyes" and of course "Won't Get Fooled Again." All fans know these songs so well some are used in well known crime drama's. All are written by Pete Townshend except for "My Wife" which is a John Entwhistle composition. This 1995 reissue also includes the bonus tracks; "Pure and Easy," "Baby Don't You Do It" (shorter version from New York record plant sessions) "Naked Eye" and "Water," live tracks from the Young Vic '71 gig, "Too Much Of Anything," "I Don't Even Know Myself" (the b side of WGFA) and "Behind Blue Eyes" again from New York. Other songs that were recorded for Lifehouse but didn't make it to this album were; "Time is Passing" and "Put The Money Down" both found on Odds and Sods, and the excellent "Relay." Other songs that were used on later albums were; "Slip Kid," "Sister Disco," "Music Must Change" and the great "Who Are You." Those keen to find out more just google; Lifehouse project, there is a particularly good site over at bbchron blogspot where he has painstakingly put together his version, well worth a look! The sound on this '95 issue is good, there is a deluxe version from 2003 which some say doesn't sound as good. Both are remastered by John Astley some people like his work some don't, remasters can be overly bright and compressed, and miss detail due to noise reduction, (thats why some people prefer vinyl and first pressing rips, a truer sound to the master). The 2003 version includes a great bonus disc of live material done at the Young Vic in april 1971 and recorded on the Rolling Stones mobile unit. My advice would be to get the 1995 edition and the 2003 version second hand off a certain auction site maybe?...............

Nach der aus Repertoiregründen unverzichtbaren Universal-Ausgabe (mit 2 zusätzlichen LPs voller Bonusmaterial!) kommt nun das „must have“ aus klanglicher Sicht von Classic Records, druckvoller denn je… Wir Plattensammler sind schon arme Schweine. ..............Erstveröffentlichung September 1971.

Kennen Sie alle Versionen des Rock-Klassikers "Who's Next"? Nun, jetzt gibt es eine Neue und es hat den Anschein, dass mit dieser von Bernie Grundman gemasterten Platte wohl das klanglich Machbare erreicht wurde. Der Charakter einer 70er Jahre - Rockscheibe wurde zwar weitgehendst beibehalten, doch es dürfte wohl kaum eine Ausgabe dieses Titels geben, die im Bass so satt und in den ruhigeren Passagen so warm und kräftig zugleich klingt. Besser sind Hits wie "Behind Blue Eyes" oder "Won't Get Fooled Again" noch nie aus den Lautsprechern gekommen, das ist kunstvoller Rock'n'Roll at its best!.............
