THE VELVET UNDERGROUND 1983 Polydor German Reissue 2488 864 Pale Blue Eyes NM

---

The Velvet Underground's self-titled third album, released in March 1969 on MGM Records, marked a significant turning point for the band. With John Cale replaced by Doug Yule, the record moved away from the abrasive experimentation of White Light/White Heat toward something quieter and more melodic — Lou Reed's songwriting at its most direct. "Candy Says," "Pale Blue Eyes," and "After Hours" sit among the most intimate recordings in the band's catalog. "The Murder Mystery" remains its most avant-garde moment, while "What Goes On" and "Beginning to See the Light" drive with loose, confident rock.

This is a 1983 West German reissue on Polydor (2488 864), distributed through Deutsche Grammophon Gesellschaft mbH, Hamburg, and distributed in the US by Jem Records. Orange Polydor label with black label center, correct for this pressing.

This pressing carries the Val Valentin mix — the clean, balanced stereo mix completed by MGM house engineer Luis Pastor "Val" Valentin at T.T.G. Studios in Hollywood. It differs from Lou Reed's "Closet Mix" used on original US pressings, which boosted Reed's vocals and reduced other instruments. Collectors actively seek this pressing specifically for the Valentin mix on vinyl.

Lacquer cut and pressed at PRS Hannover. Runouts are stamped.
