Description
Here we have an original advanced promotional copy of The Sound of Music Original Soundtrack LP. RCA Victor Records 2005. This copy is still sealed and in a pristine mint condition. While I have not opened this LP, you can verify that it's an advanced copy by the simple layout of the front cover (no victor logo, cast names, etc.), and the only thing on the back cover is the victor emblem of the advanced copy department. Contents should include typed letters signed by Richard Rodgers and George Marak vice president of RCA Victor, glossy photos and a biography of Julie Andrews, Richard Rodgers and details about the recording on custom Sound of Music letterhead. The cover is a thick and stable tri-fold. This is the holy grail for Sound of Music fans. Copies were only handed out to a small handful of record executives and music industry connections. Finding a copy, much less a sealed copy in mint condition is near impossible.
This piece comes from the estate of Ed Barker (recently acquired after the passing of his widow). Ed was the owner of San Jose based Jazz radio station KLOK from 1946 to the late 1960’s. I'll be listing a handful of choice pieces from the Baker’s estate in this week’s auctions including a 2 x 16" transcription disc of an unreleased Benny Goodman set from 1939, as well some KLOK station transcription acetates, and other transcription discs of historical interest.
