Italy had never heard anything like The Sick Rose. Even during the first anarchic wave of European garage-punk in the mid-1960s, nothing so raw, aggressive or plain nasty had ever surfaced.
The town of Torino was the unlikely nest for these mop-topped vipers, and in 1984 they began to spread their fuzz-and-Farfisa throughout the continent, and beyond.

The Sick Rose were arguably the first European garage band to have the impact globally in the same manner as The Chesterfield Kings. Their expertly realized fuzz'n'Farfisa attack embraced U.S. '66 punk, and spit it out with a distinctly Italian flavour.
They contributed killer cuts to the Italian Eighties Colours and U.S. Battle Of The Garages compilations, then followed up with their own 7" EP in 1986. The sound was raw and direct, and much more aggressive and snarled than ever expected from a European outfit, and the response was predictably enthusiastic in their native country.

This mastering of the American garage sound was culminated with the Faces LP. Though recorded in the most basic fashion. this collection of a dozen tracks is a heavy-weight contender for most consistently meaty garage record ever. There's a bit of melodic garage-pop in "Everybody Wants To Know" and "I'm Not Trying To Hurt You", while the remainder of the LP blasts into orbit fueled by super-fuzzed guitars and Luca Re's snotty, yet engaging vocals.
Though he sings in English, a thick Italian accent flavours all of his vocal work giving the band the European flavour that helped to set them apart from the pack. This LP would prove to be the band's high-mark, and a monument to their love of the garage genre.

It's easy to see why, since the vital ingredients of classic garage-rock are all present and accounted for throughout Faces: deeply resonant and snotty vocals courtesy of the dynamic and intense frontman Luca Re, shimmering and playful organ from Rinaldo Doro, and fuzzed, demented guitar tones from Maurizio Campisi and Diego Mese. We shouldn't forget Dante Garimanno and Maurizio Rubinetti - they supply the all-important primitive, pulsing, skin pounding drum beat. Though these elements had all been smashed together for years before in other bands, no one quite got the mixture right like The Sick Rose. With these Italians, equal doses of sweat, style, passion and guts all mixed into their instantly identifiable sound.

A deft touch of classic pop sensibility and musical prowess also helped this quintet rise far above their fellow cavemen - soon after the release of Faces they were quickly hailed as one of the premiere garage bands from any country, in any era.

PAYMENT

I would appreciate payment within seven days of the auction’s end. If you want to bid on more of my auctions ending a week later please inform me. I will wait and issue a combined invoice at the close of the second week’s auctions.

However, I am no longer willing to carry combined transactions beyond two weeks and in these cases would appreciate payment promptly after the close of the second week’s auctions.

I am sorry to have to introduce these measures – I always try to be patient and allow buyers to bid on extra auctions and / or delay payment. Unfortunately some buyers have been stretching out transactions to unacceptable lengths so I feel I have no option but to limit ‘carried over’ transactions to two weeks.
