Here, you get what you pay for – SAFE PACKING in BOXES using 7mm DOUBLE-WALL STIFFENERS including full side protection and bubble wrap, the records removed from the covers of course. All this very safe packing means I lose money on every box I post, but safe delivery is, and will always be paramount. You WILL see the difference when my packet arrives. Also, I will pay for insurance on any record that sells for over £100 at NO extra cost – that is UK and abroad. Also I aim to post the very same day after payment is received if possible. Label Conditions: Both superb, very fresh, clean and highly attractive with any of the few spindle traces tiny and faint. This lovely copy appears hardly played.

Warps: Assume all records I offer have no warping of any significance and all tracking is easy and effortless and should play on all turntables and even ‘budget’ decks.

Rarity: In terms of units sold, not a rare album per se, but the unboxed originals were only available for the very briefest of time before the new boxed label replaced it. Like Beatles albums, condition is the main factor with so many played to destruction on the most basic record players. A hardly played original complete with all the contents in high grading condition are far harder to find. This superb example ticks all the boxes.

Brief Artist & Album Info: One of the most popular classic albums ever issued. Always a real pleasure offering an original complete copy of one of the greatest albums ever made by one of the world’s major acts – a truly essential album for any serious vinyl collector. The last Rolling Stones album to feature the presence of the band’s creator, Brian Jones. It was a brilliant culmination of all their musical influences throughout music’s greatest decade. The power of the opening track, ‘Gimme Shelter’, will haunt many forever with the memory of the Altamont murder, Jagger’s top hat and scarf, and the death of the 1960s. The repeated line, ‘It’s just a shot away’, complements the repetition of the naively profound lyric of the album’s last track: ‘You can’t always get what you want’. The filling in-between, like the layered cake on the cover, is equally delectable. This a highly impressive all-round copy with all elements grading high – none more important for me than sound – this plays beautifully. Vintage copies in this lovely condition are becoming increasingly elusive.

Cover Condition and Details: EXCELLENT(++): arguably better still, and this hardly does this vintage cover full justice. A single format with the front laminated with Clarifoil which covers all the folds and ends on the back on the spine edge. It has the original sticker on front (which is virtually as made, as can be seen in my close-up picture). The back panel is matt and smooth and includes the peep-hole to identify a mono or stereo copy from the colour coded inner sleeve – mono being red, stereo blue – this includes the blue stereo inner. Printed in England by the Upton Printing Group and has the UK Patents Applications No 43212/68 number. One of most famous covers ever – the cake made by TV celebrity chef Delia Smith – and this does it near supreme justice. The customised Decca ‘Let it Bleed’ text inner sleeve does not have the black bar cover-up and also includes the original matt poster.

Lamination & Front: Firstly, this sleeve has been cover-protected virtually from new meaning all surfaces have scant traces of ageing or wear, with most hardly even being handled in decades. A gorgeous looking front with the laminate retaining fantastic fresh shine and clarity with hardly a trace of dulling. Any trace of lifting minimal with an ultra fine, light trace on the bottom edge that hardly even registers. Only a tiny few fine spine edge surface hairlines creases, all bar one minute. The sticker is practically mint and clearly never picked at or removed. One of rock’s most famous graphics, the famed Delia Smith-made cake looks delectable and virtually unaged. This classic front cover will prove beyond difficult to find better.

Cover Back: Again impressively clean and fresh with no fading or grubbiness bar the merest trace on the right laminate (this being ultra critical). Hardy creased bar a fine hairline and a tiny tip one on the bottom left, again will any have fewer? Any rubbing or marks tiny and light, no writing or ring wear, the peep-hole crisp and pristine. A fantastic back to complement the near exceptional front.

Top Edge: Mainly straight and the surface smooth and totally unworn.

Bottom Edge: Similar again, the end card panel neatly thickened only.

Right Edge(s), and Type: Still sharp with any thickening little and very light. Record enters on this edge.

Spine and Text: Solid, straight with minimal compression, the ends very gently nipped in manufacture. The text is unworn under the solid and uncracked laminate, this also superbly centred on quite a narrow surface.

Corners: Any tip rubs tiny and light, hardly any with only the odd tiny tip end crease. Excellent shape retained with no heavy knocks.

Cover Summary: A very strong all-round example of this classic 1960’s cover, one that will prove very difficult to find much better. This beautiful item should please many, if not most collectors.

The Inner Sleeve: EXCELLENT(+): a thin paper unlined customised Decca blue (for stereo) inner sleeve. This has aged little with any discolouration minimal and faint, this is still fresh and very clean. Only a little mild creasing to one lower corner with all edges naturally and solidly intact. One side has the song, band and album credits with the rarer uncensored black bar cover up of the choir details. The top wave recessed opening is crisp and sharp.

The Poster: NEAR MINT: this the correct original made with in paper with a matt finish surface. Printed on one side, the back being white, this still fresh and clean and importantly, unmounted e.g. NO pin holes or take marks. Hence this fragile poster is virtually as-made with barely any creasing (bar the two manufactured folds), which are both strong without weakening or thinning. This one folded to perfection with all edges flush and parallel. Not seen many, if indeed any at all better than this. So often used, torn and discarded, this beauty really does put the cherry on the famous cake.

Vinyl Condition/Visual Grading: EXCELLENT(++): grading less would not be doing this superb, hardly played copy real justice. A very fine visual copy that is very clean with equally fine shine and heavily pressed on the usual high-quality Decca vinyl. Any surface marks very few, mostly ultra light and faint as seen critically under bright light. A small surface mark on side two does nothing, there are no penetrating stylus scratches, viewed in average room light, hardly anything even registers. Visually a super record that should please many, if not most collectors.

Album Played For Grading: Yes. [I play ALL records I offer before submitting to Ebay, also the record is played in its entirety unless clearly stated otherwise. I do NOT play snippets or joining grooves to check for sound quality and quietness – I play from the beginning to end via clinically revealing equipment, all listed further down.]

Sound Quality and Audio Grading: This evergreen classic album plays even above it’s high visual grading with hardly anything to fault. Offering strong, distortion-free sound, all frequencies are sharp and clear – sound quality is very high with a wide dynamic range and very detailed sound. Any surface sounds are minimal indeed and this is a very clean pressing with no tracking issues* or inherent pressing noises. Personally I prefer the stereo version this album – it is said the mono version is a remix of the stereo version anyway – so this is always my personal first choice. All experience collectors will know the state such popular records are found in these days, with few even worthy of a second look (or listen), this beauty bucks the trend and was a delight to play-grade. Few available copies will outperform this early first stereo pressing I feel sure. Both channels are clean and sharp, I am certain this record has been played very lightly and has been very well stored and carefully handled within a non-smoking environment. Nothing spoilt my pleasure when play-grading this lovely record. It will prove very difficult to find significantly better and can be strongly recommended.

* As played-graded on a high-end Linn LP12 Sondek turntable with Ittok Mk II arm and Ortofon Quintet Black moving coil cartridge tracking at 2.2 grams. Records are a ‘contact’ format, and few will avoid the odd minor sound blemish.

The record’s cover will be placed within a BRAND NEW soft protective sleeve and the actual record will be professionally cleaned on my new Nessie Pro vacuum system to give ultimate clean grooves and playing surfaces and the best possible looks and ultimate sound quality. You will NOT get tired, dull looking, dust infested records inside worn and foggy covers with tatty inners from this seller and that’s a promise and guarantee. All records are posted in professional boxes (NOT Mailers, these do not offer any real protection). The record(s) are REMOVED from their main cover to avoid edge splits and placed within a brand new polylined inner. The record’s original inner will be included if available. SOME GENERAL GUIDES TO WEAR AND CONDITIONS TO HELP YOU DECIDE

My Use of Description Terminology: Surface Marks = Superficial, usually light marks, hairlines or light scuffs that rarely sound. Scratch = a needle mark that goes below the record’s surface, some will sound, some will not, my play-grade will inform. Original = a record that has been pressed with the first label design which does NOT necessarily mean a very first pressed record. First Pressing = A record that I believe or know to be a genuine very first pressed record. I do not claim to always know for sure, and that’s why I state the stamper and matrix numbers if at all possible, for those who claim to know what they all mean, the information is there for the collector to decide. I prefer to use terms like ‘Early Copy’ rather than ‘First Pressing’ if I am not totally sure. Surface Sound = Mild, light sound, usually light crackle or similar. Distortion = Break up of the actual sound caused by groove wear or damage from a chipped stylus – the most undesirable form of unwanted sound, vintage mono records were the most prone to this happening but not exclusively so. The symptoms of distortion are high frequency clipping, moderate constant crackle or an echo type sound quality. Violin, piano and vocals are most prone to groove-wear distortion. Feathering = Fraying or softening of the entry edge of a cover. Covers with feathered entrance edges are more likely to have had the actual record inserted and removed more than a non-feathered, sharp-edged cover which are always far more attractive. Set Off, actually a printer’s term for dark ink leaving mild residue on pale or white ink when rested upon. e.g. when a gatefold cover has black ink closed against white, this can leave some black residue on the pale area – this is mostly unavoidable or course.

The Argument for Vinyl Original sound and mix (mono mixes are rarely available on CD), high quality sound on clean copies (played on a hi-end dedicated analogue system – breathtaking sound!), beautiful, large format covers, artwork, inserts and even full size posters etc; huge investment potential, and the pleasure of owning ‘the real thing’.
