It's another case, for me, of that rarity - black musicians, other than Jimi Hendrix, who play excellent psychedelic music (and that's gradually becoming less so as I explore further). It's especially surprising, given their Caribbean backgrounds, a place almost singularly associated with Reggae. Don't be misled into expecting any sort of funk, as attributed by some reviewers - there's no semblance whatsoever here. Similarly, the only trace of soul is with the vocals which could be described as an amalgam of Sly Stone and Dobie Gray.... but not quite to their ability - the lead singer straining a little at times.
The style is pure psychedelic rock with a blues heart. The focus of the music is through the Hendrix inspired electric guitarist, who employs lots of fuzz and wah-wah. Add to that some excellent Jazzy Hammond organ and a solid rhythm section who are pure rock in style. The nearest parallel I come up with in terms of similarity is not a black artist but Cream, although there's clearly a lot of Jimi's influence.
