THE JIMI HENDRIX EXPERIENCE - ELECTRIC LADYLAND - What we have here is VERY RARE UK Track label manufactured by Polydor Records LTD. London of this legendary Hendrix record, released on original UK Track label.
To put aside all the confusion about what the real first pressing of this record is, here are the facts :
This set with Set.No. 2657 001 is long out of print now, comes in the Ernest J. Day printed fully laminated cover with white text and small Redding and Mitchell sepia photos on right side and large Jimi photo on the left side of the opened gatefold. Cat. Nos. on the labels are 613008 and 613009. No inverse small cat. numbers on the label. Side A is coupled with Side D on the Record One, and side B with Side C on the Record Two. Without any doubt, if not the first, this is very early UK Track pressing.
I will try to give as accurate and strict description as I possibly can. ( if you check my feedback you will see that my grading is honest and strict )
Matrix Numbers are machine stamped and are as follows ( * denotes scratched out unreadable number ):
Side A : 61300** 8 ( handetched) AV1 1 3 4
Side B : 613009 AV2 420 1 1 4
Side C : 613009 BV2 420 1 1 4
Side D : 613008 BV2 420 1 2 3
As far as I understand this is very early pressing.
Records are housed in the original "PLASTIC BAGS CAN BE DANGEROUS" polylined inner sleeves with 571 date on the right lower corner, Britsh patent numbers and MADE IN ENGLAND. Inners are showing signs of age with browning spots on places and normal wear, but not splits and tears. Both original PVC liners are still fully glued to the paper.
The legendary nude cover, printed by Ernest J.Day & Co is in VG+ condition, no seam splits, with normal edge, spine and corner wear and as always with this delicate and bad manufactured cover, laminate creasing and lifting in several places, but without laminate loss. Check the photos for details.
Records show that they were often played and show several light hairlines, surface marks but not any serious damages like scratches . Vinyl still retains shine and looks great. Visual grading VG+.
Labels show large amount of spindle marks, but are without writing and clean and perfectly legible.
Playgrading :
Both records play straight and track perfect, with constantly present slight background noise, but without distortion, with light pops and clicks but they are buried in the sound, with fine full dynamics and volume, clear differentiated reach and full sound, still very good playing copy thank to the high quality of Polydor pressing. Playgraded as VG+. Please be aware this is not NM copy of this collectable classic, but still in very respectable, enjoyable and collectable condition.
I cleaned the records with Record Washer with good results, I believe that additional cleaning on professional equipment will additionaly improve already great sound.
