ORIGINAL UK CAPITOL (E-ST 109) FIRST PRESSING (April 1969) OF THE INSECT TRUST'S CLASSIC PSYCH DEBUT IN STUNNING CONDITION AND DELIVERING TOP AUDIO (ON MY SYSTEM - AT A VERY LOUD VOLUME!!) - WONDERFUL IDIOSYNCRATIC BLEND OF FOLK (WITH BANJOS AND FIDDLES), PSYCH (WITH SUPERB SAX) AND EVEN FULL-ON FREE JAZZ - GREAT STUFF, GREAT COPY

Back in the '60s, most white blues musicians trying to play the music took the approach of struggling to sound as serious and authentic as possible, and a big part of the charm of the Insect Trust's debut album is that, by accident or design, they went in an entirely different direction.
While the Insect Trust were clearly and affectionately influenced by classic blues and folk, they were also eager to mess around with it, and Robert Palmer and Trevor Koehler's horns and woodwinds often throw this music into a loopy, atonal, and acid-infused direction while the loose, slightly rickety sound of Bill Barth and Luke Faust's guitars and banjos honours the styles found on vintage 78s just as their rock-oriented playing keep the results from sounding as if they spent much time actually learning the original riffs.
Given the loose but insistent backporch funk of this music -- perhaps held in place by guest musicians Bernard Purdie, Hugh McCracken, and Chuck Rainey -- the sweet tone of Nancy Jeffries' vocals seems a bit out of place, but she never seems less than committed, and she gives "World War I Song" and "Declaration of Independence" a full-bodied reading that fits their meaning.
And the final two cuts, "Mountain Song" and "Going Home," take off into a never-never land of pastoral avant-garde whimsy that exists in a world all its own.
The Insect Trust's debut has more than its fair share of lovely moments and is an engaging example of a band letting their imagination fly

LABELS: The labels are clean, bright and unmarked with only about a handful (at most) of light spindles - this copy has seen little play
VINYL Visual: The vinyl surfaces retain their original deep, glossy sheen and are practically unmarked - the record shines like-new - beautiful copy (the mark on the record in photos 5 & 8 is a reflection and not on the vinyl surface)
VINYL Audio: The audio quality is absolutely sensational throughout with a crystal clear, deep, rich, warm and vibrant sound - very impressive, beautifully recorded and on playback at a loud volume (which is how I always listen to my LPs prior to listing) there are no scratches, no sticks or jumps, no surface noise and no loud clicks or pops. The run-ins and track separations are practically silent and the whole LP plays to just about the highest possible standard with all frequencies bright and clear, no discernible groove-wear, no distortion, sounds pretty much perfect and is critically graded NEAR MINT for audio - lovely copy
SLEEVE: The G&L front laminated flipback cover is also in great condition - crisp, sharp, practically unworn edges and spine - which displays all text clear and bold (there is one light central crease). The laminated front has a deep, glass-like gloss with just a little rubbing (showing as faint ring) and a little minor, light creasing. The unlaminated back is very clean with no damage to any of the flipback sections. Critically graded an EXCELLENT (at least) the set comes complete with the original EMI advertising inner which is clean, fresh and unmarked with no splits - EXCELLENT+
