As the title suggests, The Versatile Impressions was constructed (by the group's former label ABC-Paramount) to display the Impressions at work in various musical idioms. And as was the case with many soul albums of this sort in the 1960s, it found them tackling show tunes, pop-jazz-numbers, and Lennon-McCartney covers that weren't nearly as satisfying as their straight soul outings. There are a couple of fair soul cuts here, "Sermonette" and "Don't Cry My Love" (a small anti-war hit single, co-written by Mayfield and jazz singer Oscar Brown, Jr.). "Yesterday" and "Fool on a Hill" are good songs, but not as sung by the Impressions; "Oo You're a Livin' Doll" and "This Is the Life" are embarrassing cabaret-style swingers; "The Look of Love" isn't half bad; and "East of Java" and "Just Before Sunrise," both done for the East of Java soundtrack, are intriguing curiosities.

·      THE RECORD

(a)         THE ALBUM IS STILL FACTORY SEALED AND IS BELIEVED TO BE PERFECTLY MINT. Please note: sealed items are assumed to be mint and are sold as-is, as we have no way of inspecting them.

(b)         The record is believed to come in its original stock inner sleeve.

(c)         The record is apparently pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(d)         Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

·                          THE COVER

COVER IS STILL SEALED; HOWEVER, WE ARE UNABLE TO GRADE IT MINT OR NEAR MINT DUE TO MINOR FLAWS LISTED BELOW; WE GRADE THIS COVER AS EXCELLENT OR VG++

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-       A minor water stain (BARELY VISIBLE, ON BACK SIDE ONLY) affects the area about 5 square inches in size in one bottom corner. there is no structural damage to the cover, and both cardboard base and paper slick are intact, however, the stain is faintly visible on the back side.

-       Cover has a tiny, barely visible cutout hole in one of the corners

-       Cover shows JUST A HINT of yellowing on both sides, apparently from aging.

-       Cover has a visible "wrinkle"(crease)  in one of the corners.

-       Cover has one corner slightly dinged (nothing significant)
