A truly great psychedelic pop album, probably the best I have ever heard. Fantastic work from Jeff Lynne that ranges from Beatles-like pop to a more guitar based sound. The supporting cast is excellent as the band utilizes many instruments to make an almost perfect sound. The pop craziness starts from the first track and doesn't end. There are two songs on here I usually skip and that would usually bring the rating down but I can't bring myself to do it. "Sitting in my Tree" is sort of stupid to put it lightly and "Don't Put Your Boys in the Army, Mrs. Ward isn't very good either. I also used to hate "I Like my Toys" but the naive whimsy and joyful sound has made it a highlight for me after having listened to this album for hundreds of times probably. Past that the rest of the album is almost otherworldly and closes with two of the best songs, "Pie in the Sky" and "End of the Road." It goes against how I rate things, but I gave it a perfect score even with the two mishaps. It holds a special place in my heart and is one of the more whimsical music experiences I have ever had.
