This is a set of 7 16” radio transcription records, six of them with two episodes of “The Brighter Day”, a soap opera that was created by Irna Phillips, who was also the creator of the better known soap opera “The Guiding Light”, and one of them with two episodes of The Guiding Light. The records are acetate covered metal discs. I've only photographed one Brighter Day record, but this auction includes all six Brighter Day records (12 episodes). The episode numbers are 1746,1747,1748,1749,1753, 1754, 1756, 1757, 1758,1759, 1760 and 1761. Phillips created “The Brighter Day” for NBC radio in 1948 and it continued on radio until 1956 - it was broadcast on television on CBS from 1954 until 1962. The labels on this record read “Recorded by Compton Advertising Inc., 261 Madison Avenue, New York, 33 1/3 Start Outside”. Each is rubber stamped with “The Brighter Day” and the program number. There are a number of scratches on the records (the record that I photographed is one of the worse) - I haven’t been able to play the records as I don’t own a transcription record turntable, but they should play through, although there may be some background noise. Some of the sides were quite dirty, but I’ve cleaned them all with the Disc Doctor’s Miracle Record Cleaner, although you may find the odd spot here or there.

The seventh record is a 16” radio transcription record of “The Guiding LIght”, the longest playing soap opera, having played on television from 1952 until 2009 and on radio starting in 1933. The series was also created by Irna Phillips. The labels on this record read “Recorded by Compton Advertising Inc., 630 Fifth Avenue, New York, The Guiding Light Program No. _____N.A.B. Lateral 33 1/3 Start Outside”. The program number on one side is 2084 and on the other 2085. There are a number of scratches on both sides, a couple of them appear to be fairly pronounced. I haven’t been able to play the record as I don’t own a transcription record, so I can’t say whether the record would skip or not. Still, an interesting collectible - there can’t be too many of these kicking around.

Despite the scratches, an interesting collectible set - there can’t be too many of these still in existence, so these are historical radio recordings. Altogether, they weigh 5 lbs and 15 oz. I am now shipping to my US clients through USPS services. I am located in Canada but I now have a carrier service to bring my parcels directly across the border on Tuesdays to be shipped out of the USPS postal outlet in Champlain, N.Y. In addition to the actual shipping cost, I do charge a $4.00 handling fee to help offset the cost of this special US service. Please note that even with the handling fee that it is less expensive and is a quicker service than using Canada Post.

Because eBay is now requiring TRS sellers to process within 24 hours, I would require your Paypal payment by Monday at 5:00 p.m., Eastern Standard Time.

To my Canadian clients, I use Canada Post for shipping, as I am based in Canada - legally, I am not permitted to ship to you through the US, so do not rely on the US shipping calculator for costs.

To my International clients I can ship by either Canada Post or by USPS (in order to use USPS for intl. clients - the items must sell for under $200.00).
