The Folklords were a Toronto, Ontario band who released the rare folk psych LP "Release the Sunshine" on Allied Records No. 11 in 1968.
The band members were Tom Martin on bass and vocals; Paul Seip on guitar and vocals; Martha Johnson on autoharp and vocals; and Craig Boswell on drums.
The album was produced by Jack Boswell and Bill Bessey. Two Brothers Music. Photography was by Jack Umpleby.
The Folklords did some touring, "but didn't get much support from Allied". They appeared on a few TV shows, "but it wasn't an easy time in Canada in those days", Tom writes. He continued "We split the group in late '69 and that is when I started a solo career before forming some different groups of which I will tell you more about later. The response The Folklords have had over the past 10 years is just astounding I get mail from around the world and quite a bit of airplay on college radio"
The Folklords album is one of the most sought after albums of this genre. It truly is a phenomenal album.
The Folklords also released 2 - 45's: "Forty Second River b/w Unspoken Love" on the Kitchener, Ontario record label Cob Records M.S. 105 in 1968; and "Jennifer Lee b/w Pardon Me Judas" on Allied 6358 in 1969.
This is the RARE PRIVATELY ISSUED SINGLE WHICH FEATURES HAUNTING DRUM-LESS VERSION OF FORTY-SECOND RIVER/ UNSPOKEN LOVE both of which were re-recorded for the original album released on Allied on COB records M.S. 105
