THIS IS A HAND SIGNED COPY OF THE CLASH SINGLE "ENGLISH CIVIL WAR". IT HAS ALL 4 MEMBERS SIGNATURES ON THE SLEEVE:- JOE STRUMMER, MICK JONES, PAUL SIMONON AND NICKY "TOPPER" HEADON. THE RECORD IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION AS IS THE SLEEVE. I'VE HAD IT FRAMED ON MY WALL BUT NOW MUST SELL SO I CAN PUT THE MONEY TOWARDS A NEW GUITAR.
"English Civil War" is a song by The Clash, featured on their second album Give 'Em Enough Rope, and released as a single.
The song is derived from an American Civil War song, "When Johnny Comes Marching Home", written by Irish-born Massachusetts Unionist Patrick Sarsfield Gilmore, which is in turn derived from the Irish anti-war song "Johnny I Hardly Knew Ye". The American Civil War song was popular with both sides of the conflict.
Having learnt the song at school, Joe Strummer suggested the band update it. Those on the left saw the rise during the mid-1970s of far right groups such as the British National Front as alarming and dangerous omens for Britain's future. The song is about this state of politics in Britain and warns against all things uniformed and sinister - shortly after the song was first performed live at Rock Against Racism Joe Strummer said in an interview to the music newspaper Record Mirror:
"War is just around the corner. Johnny hasn't got far to march. That's why he is coming by bus or underground" (as in the song's lyrics).The cover of the single is a still from John Halas' 1954 animated adaptation of George Orwell's Animal Farm.
It reached #25 on the British single charts and was covered in 1993 by The Levellers on The Julie EP.
The lyrics to The Clash's version vary greatly from the original.

The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.
EXCELLENT
The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.
VERY GOOD
The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.
GOOD
The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.
FAIR
The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.
POOR
The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.
BAD
The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.
