THE STORY
We all want to say “I saw the Blizzards before they became really famous and I knew they were something special” but….well…. I did. If you were part of the throng squashed into the performance area of Tower Records on the evening that they launched their first single then I’m sure you felt the same. Dec struck out the first beats of “First Girl To Leave Town”. Within seconds the whole place went bananas and you thought the ceiling must be on the verge of coming down. The now familiar pulsing beat and Bresy’s impressive frame at the front of the “stage” in such a tiny space were, quite simply, intoxicating. Being the only “over 30” in the crowd I felt a bit ancient compared to the rest of the on-lookers. Now, alongside my niece and nephews at all of the gigs, I still do but don’t care! Unashamedly, I love them and, if Bresy loves Carla Bruni, well, you know, maybe there’s still hope for me…
To Moff, Band Manager, and Anne Pennefather of Universal Records, who surrendered Dave Barry’s amazing pic of Bresy and all the signed albums without hesitation, we offer sincere thanks. Thanks also to Dave, whose brilliance as a photographer is so evident in this electric moment captured. And finally thanks to all the lads who signed the items so lovingly for those who will get to enjoy them
THE REASON
In post-Celtic Tiger Ireland we still have no Hospice in the Republic for children with life-threatening and life-limiting conditions. The campaign to build its first Children’s Hospice is being led by Jane McKenna of the Laura Lynn Foundation in collaboration with the Children’s Sunshine Home. To quote Jane who lost both her daughters aged 4 and 15 to childhood illnesses this is about “putting life into a child’s days and not days into a child’s life”. A dedicated Children’s Hospice for the Republic would provide specialised respite and emergency care for children when they are in the most difficult stages of their illness and provide a peaceful environment for the child to die with dignity, if home is not a possibility. Northern Ireland has one Children’s Hospice in Belfast - Horizon House – with a second under construction in Fermanagh
Every cent and penny that you can give is so much appreciated by both charities. All auction proceeds will make a huge difference to the lives of the children and their parents and siblings who must face the most difficult of life’s challenges. By simply taking the time to read this far you have already begun to support us. Thank you.
THE CHILDREN’S HOSPICE AUCTION IS PART OF THE TRACTOR ON TOUR 2008 CAMPAIGN,
