THE BEATLES, "YESTERDAY AND TODAY",  Stereo ST 2553, Capitol Records"5" Pressed in Los Angeles, 1966  A perfect peel from the early 1970s showing 1st State "Butcher" Cover and including 2nd State "Trunk" slick.  '66 Capitol album sleeve.  All original.
Condition:  Butcher Front Cover:  Overall the cover image is very strong, there is NO glue residue, NO tears or paper lift from the peel.  Very light paper scruff far right edge at the album slot. The upper right corner has a tiny ding with light corner paper scruff.  Far left some light scattered foxing along vertical white paper.
Rear Cover:  Some scattered foxing in white areas most notable along right bottom section. Eight (6 larger and two smaller) blue ink check marks next to song titles. Extremely light shelf wear at bottom. Tiny ding to upper left corner. Spine: In the printed word "YESTERDAY", the "ESTE" chipped and missing.  If viewed vertically, the spine is intact and firm moving downward it becomes progressively chipped and brittle.  See photo of spine edge. Top album cover edge:  A few scattered chips and yellowing progressing towards the album opening. Paper scuff at far right top edge.
Bottom album cover edge: The seam on the bottom of the cover is completely separated, See photo. Trunk Slick:  Some overall crinkling most notable bottom right corner where the peel commenced.  It was folded in half horizontally with a 1 inch separation at the fold line at the right side center. See Photo. Bottom right corner showing impression from prior triangular shaped fold. Some very light horizontal coloration along top edge.
Verso trunk cover slick:  Showing uniform linear glue remnants with circular glue remnants center.
Album sleeve:  Original Yellow/orange Capitol '66.  About 85% of left seam perforated. 
Bottom sleeve 3.50 inch separation, right sleeve 3 inch separation with a 1/2 inch horizontal tear at top separation edge. 
LP Side 1:  Tiny spindle wear chip, label otherwise showing bright and fresh.  To human eye needle scratch thru end of Song 1 almost to end of Song 2. Another scratch but shorter as described prior. Under magnification some other scattered scratches, NO scratches anywhere heavy or deep.Run out wax engraved "ST-1-2553-B-18 (ends with a dot)".  Tiny and faint "asterik" above and to the right of Number 1 on label. Playing side 1, there is some fuzz on the lead in but once the music hits, it plays very clear and loud.  Through the two scratches as described above, you don't hear any repetitive pops or hard fuzz.
LP Side 2:  Showing some spindle wear, a bit more than showing on Side 1.  To human eye, showing scratch about 60% of the way through 1st song. Second scratch showing at end of 3rd song into 4th song.  Both scratches 1 centimeter length. Under magnification, scattered tiny scratches and surface rubs.  None of the scratches or surface imperfection are deep or heavy. Run out wax engraved "ST-2-2553-A-13(ends with a dot)".  Tiny and faint "asterik" above and to the left of the "Capitol" logo at top center.
Playing side 2, it is very much as playing Side 1, perhaps a fraction more fuzz but again when music is playing, you don't hear any fuzz, no skips, no pops.  Plays loud and clear.

Description:  They're numerous on line and printed resources that discuss the infamous Butcher album including the "American Records" guide by Goldmine.  This is the rarer STEREO version that had the TRUNK slick peeled off sometime during the 1970s.  As it turned out, it was the perfect peel as there are no tears, or paper lifts or glue remnants anywhere making the exposed Butcher cover as close to being a 1st state Butcher cover as possible without actually being a 1st state Butcher cover.
The Trunk slick has the horizontal fold, small separation and it is a bit crinkly but otherwise it is all intact. As I understand it the 1st state albums that were returned to their manufacturing centers, the right sleeve album edge was cut vertically, the album removed, the Trunk cover adhered, album put back and the whole thing shrink wrapped.  The album offered here width is 12.25 inches/31 centimeters exact. The height is a tiny bit longer at just under 12.5 inches/31.5 centimeters exact.
The Story: Paid a lot of money and bought a collection of LPs from an older gentleman in the very late 1990s and this album offered was included.  Back then I didn't know anything about the Butcher album, I just wanted to get back into vinyl.  I had a small collection that started in the late 1970s but like most people, I stopped buying and playing vinyl when CDs came along around 1986. I would run into this guy once in awhile and after figuring out what I had bought from him, I had asked him about this album.  He said that he had heard about how you could use a tea kettle and steam off the Trunk cover and wanted to try it.  He said it took him three days to do it and that it wasn't as difficult as he had heard or read.  You can see in the photo of the Trunk cover slick that he started at the bottom right corner as it is the area showing the most handling.
The Price:  Pop sike has a very similar album listed as sold from October 2019.  It was a 2nd state that was peeled to 1st state that included the Trunk slick.  It's listed as selling for USD3,000.  The differences were it's Butcher cover was not as nice as mine but overall the cover condition was better with no seam perforations and a really nice spine.  It's Trunk slick was also in better shape as it had no fold through it, no small tear and not as crinkled.  Both had the original '66 album sleeve and that one came with a copy of the recall letter (which can be bought off eBay or downloaded). 

UPDATE: (November 28th, 2020)  Sold the album but the buyer had some payment issues.  So no harm, no foul.  Lowering price again to more accurately reflect fair market value.  Thanks for looking.

EDIT: (November 9th, 2020)  I've received some feedback from a knowledgeable source stating that the "A" and "B" on the run out dead wax relates to the original "mothers" that were used in the pressing process.  As such I've reduced the price of this offering accordingly.  Thank you to the eBay member!
