THE BEATLES – WHITE ALBUM ORIGINAL  1ST ISSUE IN STEREO, FEATURING THE RARE  LABEL MISPRINT OF ‘RACOON’.

1968 PCS 7067/7068 -  APPLE RECORD LABEL.

A FIRST EDITION STEREO PRESSING IN ORIGINAL CONDITION.  FEATURING THE RARE RECORD LABEL MISPRINT/SPELLING ERROR OF ‘RACOON’ !, THE  CORRECT  SPELLNG IS  ‘RACCOON’ ! .

CONDITION:

MAIN SLEEVE:  is in near excellent condition, the double album gatefold sleeve  has ‘The Beatles’ embossed onto it and a unique individual serial number of  0579712.  The records are accessed from the top.  To the top right, rear there is a small and very clear  ‘Stereo’ logo.  The sleeve has little in the way of the usual discolouration and is white and very clean. It features the exposed inner flipbacks.   There are a few light scuffs and creases. The spine is in good condition, it has a little flaky laminate and the words, ‘The Beatles’ is partially obscured, the rest of the text on the spine is readable.  At the rear of the sleeve there is  a tear  60mm long,  I have not attempted to make a repair, a successful  repair could be made where tear would hardly notice.

INNER SLEEVES: features the two original BLACK inners, one has some light creases,  but has NO edge wear, there are two small tears around the die cut hole, I grade this as in very good+ condition. The other has some light creases,  but NO edge wear, there is a tear from the centre die cut hole 40mm long, I grade this as in good ++ condition.

PHOTOS: the four original photos are present and are in excellent condition,  with NO cellotape or blue tack residue etc.

POSTER:  the original poster is complete with no rips, tears or writing (Biro) on,  and there is NO evidence of cellotape or blue tack residue, there is a little wear to   some of the folds, I grade it as being in very good condition+.

VINYL:  the two records are of the original ‘thick set’ heavy  vinyl, :

The first record is in excellent condition, the audio is very good, the vinyl lays flat, with no skip or jumps.  The matrix nos. are YEX 709-1, and YEX 710-1 and the mother/stampers are  4 TR, and 3 GRO. 

The second record, it is in very good condition+, with a few light marks to the surface, the audio is very good and the vinyl lays flat, with no skip or jumps.  The matrix nos. are YEX 711-1,  and YEX 712 -1 and the mother/stampers are   5 RT, and  0 !  LT. 

THE LABELS:

The first record label, side one, is in good condition, through age a small part of the edge of the label has come away, otherwise the label is bright, clean with DARK green Apple colours.

The second record label, side Two features the very RARE misprint of ‘RACOON’  this song title is normally spelt ‘Rocky RACCOON’ !.  This label is in excellent condition with no wear,  the label is bright and clean.

The third record label, side three, is in very good condition, the label is bright, clean with DARK green Apple colours.

The forth record label, side four, is in good condition, through age a small part of the edge of the label has come away, otherwise the label is bright and clean. 

‘An EMI recording’  appears on all four of the labels, and all the labels have the text:  ‘Sold in the UK’ etc.  The George and Ringo songs are listed as  ‘Apple Publishing’ .

I am using the official grading system from Record Collector Magazine.

Grading System

The seven standard condition categories and a description of what each one means are listed below:

MINT: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

EXCELLENT: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.

VERY GOOD: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

GOOD: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.

FAIR: The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump.
The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.

POOR: The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.

BAD: The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.

+  or  – :  indicates a grading in between categories.
