Description
Very RARE 1/2/3/4 (not the normal 1/4/2/3) Original Capitol Records MONO "The Beatles Story" double LP and with the more rare cover. Released 23 November 1964. Spizer version CAP 2222.MR1B(ii) and was manufactured under contract by RCA using stampers manufactured at Capitol's LA plant.
Most copies of this Beatles LP were pressed so that sides 1 and 4 were on one record and sides 2 and 3 were on the other record. Doing this allowed radio stations to cue both sides 1 and 2 and then sides 3 and 4 to play sequentially right in a row over the air. This is the much rarer version improperly pressed with sides 1 and 2 together on one record and sides 3 and 4 on the other record.
Another rarity is this record's cover (MC2)... it has the short spacing of the catalog number and dot at the top right corner. Most copies of the cover (MC1) had a 1" space to the right of the catalog number (TBO 2222).
This is a documentary/interview LP so many fewer copies were made and sold; most people were buying the music LPs. This LP is a must for any Beatles collection and helps tell you about madness of Beatlemania in 1964.
Graded using the visual grading standards of the Cox/Daniels "Price Guide For The Beatles American Records" (6th edition). These grading standards tend to be more stringent than Goldmine. See my various photos of the cover and record. I grade conservatively using a bright light so the buyer knows exactly what they are bidding on.
Record - visually graded VG
Each side has some various length shallow marks/scratches from 50+ years of use. No major scratches as the vast majority of them are hairline (aka "angel hairs") and you need to hold the vinyl to the right angle of light even to see them. None prevent proper playback and there are no skips, of course. The labels are clean other than some minor spindle marks on 2 labels.
Cover - visually graded VG
Minor splitting of both top seams (this is a gatefold cover) and some corner bumps. No ring wear but there are some light storage marks on the front/rear, some of which can likely be gently cleaned off. There is some writing inside the gatefold cover by the original owner including the date that she received the record presumably by her parents in Dec. 1964. No mold or water stains.
