THE BEATLES: Revolver Vinyl LP 1966 MONO PMC7009 XEX605-2/-3. Original Plain White ‘Patent Applied For’ Inner. Audio and sleeve are VG+.

PLAY TESTED MARCH 6TH. NO SKIPS OR JUMPS OR STICKING. VG+.

Second press, of what many critics consider to be The Beatles finest album. Black label with yellow Parlophone logo and silver print. ‘Gramo Co Ltd’ perimeter print, and ‘Sold In U.K.’ text. This pressing is housed in the original inner, in VG condition. KT tax code embossed to side 2, with XEX 605-2 & XEX 606-3 matrix numbers, indicative of the second press. It has the mis-print Dr. Robert’ text to side 2, with ‘Dr Robert’ to the sleeve. Oddly, it’s with sans serif Arial typeset, with each song title starting on a new line, with each song title followed by song credits, then lead vocalist. Commonly known as Variation A. However, it was thought that Variation A had the corrected ‘Doctor Robert’ reading to all labels, this pressing appears to be an anomaly.

VINYL AUDIO. VG+. ABSOLUTELY NO SKIPS, JUMPS OR STICKING.

There’s surface noise/static on side 1 intro/run-in, with some ‘crackle’ and light ‘pops’ into the early part of ‘Taxman’. Similar surface noise on side 2 intro/run-in. There’s infrequent occasional surface noise on other tracks, but nothing that overwhelms or spoils a VG+ audio experience.

Both sides have light marks/scratches/hairlines, with Side 1 having a more prominent mark/scuff across tracks 2 and 3. Nothing deep or feelable, and nothing that interferes with playback.

LABELS. EXCELLENT.

Side 1.

Sans-Serif Arial font (see above).

Clean, bright and graffiti free. Very little spindle ware; really only seen under angled light.

Side 2.

As side 1, with KT embossed.

SLEEVE. VG+. (Garrod & Lofthouse Ltd. Patents pending.)

I’d describe this G&L Ltd flip-back sleeve as VG.

The front side has a little ringing to bottom portion, and a little creasing. There’s no laminate lifting, though a light line near the opening (see Johns left eye). A little scuffing to the well defined corners.

The spine is crease free, strong and easily legible. Superb.

The rear panel is not quite excellent, though certainly VG++, with just a little ringing to the left of John. The flip-backs are strong and fully in tact, with some very minor lifting/scuffing mid-way along the bottom.

ORIGINAL ‘PATENT APPLIED FOR’ INNER. VG

Early editions of this album, were housed in either an EMI advertising inner, or as in this case, a ‘Patent Applied For’ ‘Made In Great Britain’ inner. There are no rips/tares/seam splits, and just a little creasing/yellowing.
